Her mother died in childbirth. Her father often ignored her, blaming her for his wife's death, and she was very isolated. Thus, she's very shy and doesn't have very good social skills. However, she still wants to be with other people. She is very easily upset, and often runs away from situations she doesn't know how to deal with, as she is shown doing here.
