In order to start the grid forming you need to push G, every time you push G it will restart the process.
For how this works, click the See Inside button on the top right. It should have enough notes for someone who is on scratch for the first time. This is not a complex system, and I am sure there are simpler ones than this, but this is a way to make a grid inf big without running into the clone limit.
