Heya! I'm Marsh a queer, aroace activist/artist/animator who uses she/her pronouns! I'm on my school's tech crew, I have an obsession with Decked Out on Hermitcraft, I love to read (and sometimes love to write), and I am learning Python and Javascript! I've been interacting with folks on the Hive since late 2020 on my main account, @1-o-v-e (November was when I got active, i believe), so I'm hoping to apply as a manager! I totally understand if I don't get it, but I'd be honored and super happy to become a manager! :D Manager timing/age? > As far as when I'd be able to manage, I could manage almost any day of the week, save for probably Thursdays. Fridays would work especially well, since that's when I have most of my free time. :) Although my time zone lines up with dayhive more, I'm always up late anyways, so I'd be able to be active probably a lot later than the majority of current managers, and into the earlier nighthive times. I'd rather not share my exact age, but knowing the average age range for the studio, I'm on the older side. :) Why would I be a good manager? / What unique things could I bring to the position? > I'm easy to talk to/friendly (I hope, lol. I try to be) > I've been around for a fairly long time, so I know a lot of the older members and already have established friendships with many of the current members/managers. At this point, I fully understand the studio rules. > I have ~3 years of experience being a lead manager for another active queer studio; I've been a manager of the a-spec pillow fort (https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/28261851/) for a long, long time. From this, I've gained experience with helping out new members, being productive/helpful around studios, introducing new rules/regulations, selecting out who would be the best new managers/understanding how many managers are needed, and a bunch of other skills. > When facing queerphobes/trolls, I have always kept my cool and report/ignore or reply thoughtfully, depending on what the situation calls for. >>> At least one person who came off as homophobic at first has told me that I've convinced them that queer people are valid. I can't think of really good examples, but that's the best I can think of. > I have 4000+ followers on my main account, which I have been using and will continue to use to help people learn more about queer identities (particularly a-spec stuff, since I have experience with it). I've been an a-spec advocate on scratch for a while, which i think has helped me reach a broader audience. This experience would make me able to bring in new members and create more awareness, which I think is important for the studio. > As an older queerio, I could be a good resource for those who want to talk to someone who's been through certain things before or want help with older-queer-people-things, (for example, finding queer-friendly colleges/support groups) if they ever wanted. <3 > I'm decent at coding, as seen through the games I've made on my main, so I'd be happy to make some Gaehive-related games (such as Guess That Gaehivian! or a Euphoria Engine or something like that) What are the downsides to me being a manager? > Although I check my scratch messages at least once a day, I'm not always active in the studio, itself, so there are some newer people who I don't know/don't know me due to my inactivity. If I were a manager, I would probably dedicate much more time to being in the studio itself and being part of the studio, but I will always prioritize my irl life, which may mean some inactivity. > I'm not sure if this would be a problem, but I'd rather be promoted on this account than , since I'm not actually a curator there. Most people probably know me from 1-o-v-e, but I'd rather remain a non-curator there, for personal reasons (I can explain in depth if someone asks) <3
What's my stance on some of the current issues? (I can't do multiple because of the description's character limit lol- sorry. if you want me to talk about it, just ask in a comment and i'll say my stance) Note: all of this is hypothetical, and I'm not sure if any of this would solve the problem but these are my thoughts. > I feel like a lot of the newcomers get ignored when they join and introduce themselves, partly due to the studio hostility towards newcomers, and partly because people just aren't interested/dedicated to talking to new people. I think it could be nice if we improved the curator orientation studio a bit. We could select a few volunteers to be an active welcoming committee, kind of like how scratch has an overall welcoming committee. That way, their comments wouldn't get ignored, AND people can get to know THEM better. (side note: i think part of the studio hostility stems from newcomers not understanding the rules yet—reorganizing that studio to help new people learn the rules and the importance of them could significantly help this). I'd be willing to be on the welcome committee, if this did end up happening. :) I think part of the issue with the current studio is it's not so easy to find (I didn't even know it existed until today), so maybe adding a link to the studio when inviting people as well as adding a link in the desc. /where it says you can ask to join/ may help improve this part of the problem. :) What would I improve about the Gaehive if I were promoted? > I'd try to interact a lot with newcomers and make them feel welcomed, and convince others to do the same > I'd do some fun studio events, like Jord's tier list thumbnail things > This has definitely improved already, but there are still some inappropriate jokes being made, and I think that making sure people understand they shouldn't make the jokes would definitely improve the studio. > I may end up creating some sort of schedule for studio events, like every Friday at some time, there's a certain game that gets played, like griffpatch's slither.io, or kahoot. Maybe there's a schedule of games for every day of the week, maybe something once per month. Either way, i think having a schedule for it would be great, because then people know to come online for it, and more people can participate. :) Who are three or more other members I'd recommend to promote? > @PrincessMeta is a long-time member who I've always seen hanging around the studio, helping out new people, and being just awesome all the time. Pretty much anyone I've seen and talked to has suggested it as a manager, (and this number of people suggesting one person obviously means something: she's connected to the community, she's kind, she's helpful, all the good things). Honestly I think her being part of the studio changes things overall, it's just an awesome person and brings up the vibes whenever she's around :) The thing I could see potentially holding her back is inactivity, maybe. > @GaehiveOutOfContext has always been really friendly, even when they don't know people super well. I've seen them around a bunch of times answering people's questions and responding to people, regardless of how new the person is. Plus, they still contribute ooc projects, which have always been fun to look at. :] > @I_dnt_cre_abt_u is a wonderful person and I think they'd be a great contribution to managership. As a fellow a-spec pillow fort manager, I know that they're really good at keeping things in order, responding to all sorts of questions, staying active, etc. Trust me when I say I'm SO glad that we picked it to be one of the new managers there, a few months ago- and I'm sure people would be glad for them to be a gh manager too. I know this probably doesn't count as a specific example of how they've impacted /this/ studio, but I can say from experience that they're on top of it and from the moment we promoted it, it's been a great manager. idk. i hope that makes sense. As far as things go, i think the only thing potentially holding them back is that they aren't quite as well known as some of the other applicants. Either way, they'd be a great addition. I have a few other recommendations, but I'll leave them in the rec studio, since there's not really enough space here. ;] I don't really expect to become manager, in all honesty, but I figured there's no harm in it, so here we are. Either way, I'm sure I'll be happy about whomever gets promoted! You deserve it! :)
