PROLOGUE: The small pup peeked behind the acorn tree. The raging river surrounding him looked as if it had just been set free after years trapped in a small cavern. Just like mother, he thought. The Frostbite River has been named after the hundreds of pups that had attempted escape from the Crystal Cave, but inconveniently drowned. The curious pup leaned closer to the river. He slowly reached his paw in to feel the water below. It pressed viciously against his tiny paw. Brr that is colder than the Crystal Cave. He stared at the other side. Maybe I could jump, then I can go home. He closed his eyes. Come on Silverfrost, you can do it. He took a step back, but before he could spring himself to the muddy river bank, something, or someone pushed him. Silverfrost tried to balance himself, but ended up losing his footing, plunging into the fierce river below. When his head finally resurfaced, the thing that pushed him had disappeared. Another large wave suddenly swallowed him and pulled him down into the hard river bed. After a long moment he managed to swim back to the surface and gasp for air, before more waves trampled over him. Silverfrost's muffled screams echoed in the forest, as his small body slammed into a nearby rock, making a deafening cracking sound. Blood slowly drifted downstream as the innocent wolf pup fought for his life.
