On November 24th, 2007, guitarist and screamer of Hawthorne Heights, Casey Calvert, passed away in his sleep while on tour at the age of 26. It has now been 16 years since that day, so I drew this to honor him. His death devastated the band. Casey Calvert was not only a band member, but also a friend. The best friend of lead singer JT Woodruff, in fact. As it was written in the booklet of the CD of the HH album, Zero, Casey will forever remain a member of Hawthorne Heights. It is as JT Woodruff wrote at the end of the song “Sugar in the Engine.” “On November 24th, I woke up, just like any other day, the beginning of another tour, just another city I’ve already seen before. If I only knew last night was the last time I would ever see you again. I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night I would’ve said I love you I would’ve said goodbye I would’ve said good night” Rest in peace, Casey. For this project, I chose 2 songs that were written about Casey. I did not speed them up for aesthetic this time out of respect.
Note: if you want to look up what happened to him, don't just look up his name. Look up “Casey Calvert Hawthorne Heights.” Otherwise you will not get the results you’re looking for. Art by me Songs are Sugar in the Engine and Four Become One by Hawthorne Heights
