I. Introduction My name is Aya, I’m 16 and have been here for around 2 years. I’m transfem, use she/they pronouns, and will mainly be active from 8am-3pm central time. II. Positives I’ve had quite an experience with sockpuppets; I worked a lot with isla on catching/exposing them which has allowed me to be more effective when dealing with them. I also am quite active during the hours I’m on scratch, allowing me to react pretty quickly. As a final note, I’m not super close to most members of the gaehive, giving me a more unbiased view on drama that may surface. (People have also pointed out that I’d add representation for transfems, so take that how you will) III: Negatives I’ve been increasingly less active, limiting my ability to manage, and get exhausted pretty easily, meaning I might not be the best at enforcing rules. In addition, I do lack empathy towards those I’m not close with, which could lead me to seeming blunt and/or cold. I was also quite reluctant to apply for manager, only doing it because of people recommending me, meaning there is a chance I would step down, but only time can tell. IV: Unique attributes I have a pretty good sense of when something might be wrong in the studio, which could allow me to cool things down before. I can’t think of anything in particular that would make me stand out from other applicants. V: Issues A: Hostility towards newcomers: I believe this is a problem with the studio’s inherent culture, rather than inexperience or bad actors. Given that this is something baked into the studio’s culture (managers are just bad of offenders as curators are), I believe that instead, managers and popular members should be more warm and welcoming to set an example for others. Unless problems arise, we shouldn’t question their intentions. B: Venting: I think venting about non-lgbtq issues should be allowed to the length of the community guidelines’ arm. I see no problem with, for example, talking about how an upcoming test is stressing you out. However, serious issues that require a therapist should be banned, even if it seeming follows the guidelines. I think @ASUUUUNARO had a good point when talking about secondhand [x], which is definitely a problem we should consider. In a tangential note, I think vents about self-hate should be banned as well. These can quickly create a toxic feedback loop that can send people spiraling into worse and worse mental health. For this, we should make the rule of “be respectful” to include the self. C:Ignoring advice/euphoria comments: Yet another cultural problem, I think what many fail to consider is that many of us have difficulty with helping others properly, and I don’t really see any major change we could make. I have thought of making a studio full of resources for common lgbtq issues (ie: passing as your gender, dealing with queerphobia), that could help a lot. D. Exclusionism towards identities: This is a queer studio, discourse on identities can and will happen. I think we’re actually doing quite well with this right now, while identity discourse does still happen, it causing a large drama to unfold has become a far less common occurrence. E. Trigger warnings: From personal experience, I think a list of trigger warnings on a studio-wide level is bound to fail. One too exhaustive creates a culture where one must remember a large set of topics that must be flaired, and those who forget are attacked. Meanwhile, a smaller, fixed set of warnings would create discourse as those who are triggered by more mundane topics may be taken less seriously as they are not found in the list. I think it’s best to keep the rule as “If someone asks you to add a tw, please do so!” If someone refuses, this would break the guideline of “be respectful”, and the ST should be contacted.
VI: Recommendations A: @achellianlove: Well, this is something I never expected to say. Even though I still don’t fully trust ghost, I do believe that my distrust is on me, and h3 seems to be fully reformed. Byte’s status as a former sockpuppet/troll would give h1m a unique outlook that would be needed if one arises again. B: @FireFromHeat: I think managers that are able to just be overall a good choice are needed. I can’t think of anything in specific that they would excel at, but he’d have experience in all the main issues the studio faces. C: @Carovity. Dude would be the most boring manager ever (in a good way), being one of the most level-headed ppl I know, and being quite good at following the guidelines. Cakes might be best as one that can take over when other managers might be inactive. D. @-Alador-: This gal’s gonna be the next Gooseworx, and I could see her making some really fun events for the members of the hive. She also is pretty good at deescalating conflicts, although I do worry that she might not be in the right headspace to manage at the present. E. @I_dnt_cre_abt_u: There’s a bit of irony in their name, as I honestly see it as one of the most caring members of the studio; having a very accepting mindset. They are pretty knowledgeable about nonhuman identities, which makes up a large part of the studio, and currently don’t have a manager to represent them. I believe that the main issue we should focus on in these elections is diversity when it comes to managing, and Chaos is one of the best choices for this. F: Others I don't have much to say about: @oxiiclean, @princessmeta, @wormbutch
