I’ve decided to start (somewhat) consistently posting about shark species! So today we’re talking about the Basking Shark. Basking Shark: Around an average of 25 to 40 feet They weigh about 10,000 pounds. They live for about 50 years Basking Sharks are known for their wide open mouths, but why do they have this such prominent face feature? Similar to the whale shark, they get their nutrients by swimming around and swallowing any little bits of life they can find, this includes plankton, krill, and, other various organisms. Did you know basking sharks are also able to close their mouths?
