A few of you may know of a project I've been working on for over a year now - ROA [Rise of Ash]. This is a comic inspired by several others and is based on the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. I have been teasing this thing since last year, and have made far too many broken promises. |- What I've Been Doing -| I have been talking non-stop about this thing for so long, yet all you have gotten are two pieces of art depicting the main character, Ashthorn. Since I mentioned I was creating a comic all the way back in either 2022 or 2021, I have been trying to perfect the plot, world-building, and character designs. So far, I know all of the major plot points I want to happen and when they'll happen, but a comic isn't just a bunch of time skips to get to the good parts. Those plot points aren't the problem. The filler in between them is. I've written a general outline for what I want to happen, but scripting it to make it interesting is difficult [something I assume many other comic creators struggle with]. But, along with working on the refs for all the main, side, and background characters, I've been getting through the scripts of each chapter at a relatively slow pace. I am a person who finds comfort in having a solid plan with a bit of flexibility, and one who loves to procrastinate, hence why it has taken so long to get anywhere. |- Info -| I've been waiting far too long to get this thing out, and I know a few of you have as well, so I'll give a little sneak peak here: Since there is some controversy surrounding the naming conventions of Warriors, some things will not be exactly the same. Clans are referred to as colonies in my comic, and there are many more new roles. The colonies are: - Forest Colony [ThunderClan equivalent] - Creek Colony [RiverClan equivalent] - Pine Colony [ShadowClan equivalent] - Moor Colony [WindClan equivalent] - Canopy Colony [SkyClan equivalent] ROA is completely separate from the canon clans, so there is no history between any of the characters and the canon ones Ranks we have now are: - Leader [Same] - Deputy [Same] - Healer [Just a different word for medicine cat] - Gatherer [Gatherers collect herbs and other healing items for healers. They also tend to be the best trackers of the clans] - Commander [These cats are similar to deputies, but one rank below them. They form a sort of committee that advises the leader. They also lead patrols and replace the deputy if they are ill or die] - Guard [Guards are pretty self-explanatory. They escort the leader, healers, gatherers, or prisoners. There are at least two that rank higher than the others and always guard the leader] - Fighter [Self-explanatory] - Hunter [Self-explanatory] - Trainee [Another word for apprentice] - Queen [Same] - Kit [Same] The roles of the main cast are still being decided, but Ashthorn is for sure either a fighter |- Structure -| This comic is structured differently than most. Usually it tends to be just an ongoing series with several chapters until it ends, but ROA will not be the same. ROA will be split up into two volumes and a sequel. Volume 1 will focus on Ashthorn's late apprentice days and young warrior-hood, whereas Volume 2 will be centered around his full warrior-hood and the events leading up to the end. The first volume will likely be shorter than the second, as there is not much time between the major events that start and end it. I still have yet to know how I want to do Volume 2, but I know where I want it to end. The sequel is going to be set quite a long time into the future, but not so far ahead [Ash and all of the main characters of ROA will have been retired for quite a while]. Since it is still a very long time until the sequel, I will tease the name: Indigo Eyes [This has nothing to do with the book or song - I just picked a very obvious title that will make a lot of sense once we reach it] Overall, sometime in the early months of next year, I'm hoping to get at least the prologue and chapter 1 out. ROA also may eventually be moved offsite to either DA or a comic website. This is mainly because Scratch doesn't handle very high-quality art well, and I want to put a lot of detail into the art I make for this. I also just absolutely adore the multi-panel style comics, and it looks way too strange in Scratch, especially with it's small canvas. But that's about it. Thanks for reading this far if you did. Hopefully ROA will be posted soon!
