GUYSS ITS FINALLY HERE CHAPTER 8!!! WARNING: SPOILERS \/ Who's the new student based off of? D̶e̶f̶i̶n̶i̶t̶e̶l̶y̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶m̶e̶
Ding dong! Deep breaths. I got this. “Maya! It’s for you!” Dad yelled. Ugh, only a few more years until that deadname stuff is done. “Coming!” I said, stumbling halfway down the stairs. “Hey.” I said. “Hi. You ready to go?” Sky asked. “Y-yeah.” I replied. We walked out the door and I quickly yelled “Bye mom! Bye Dad!” Most of the drive was silent, in an awkward way. “So, where are we going?” I asked, breaking the silence. “Starbucks.” she said. “Please tell me you like Starbucks.” she muttered, thinking I couldn’t hear. “Oooh! I love Starbucks.” I replied. When we got there it was pretty empty, but that’s to be expected at a Starbucks at 5PM. “Do you want me to pay?” I asked, pulling out my credit card. “No no, it’s fine.” she muttered. We said our orders and then we sat down at a table in the corner. “So, what are you gonna do after senior year? Any hopes and dreams?” she’d ask. My mind immediately went to something I definitely wasn’t going to say. “Maybe a veterinarian. Then I could be an artist as a side job.” I replied. “Oh really? I’ve never seen any of your drawings before, but I bet you’re really good.” she said. I pulled a piece of paper and a pencil out of my pocket, and started drawing. After about 2 minutes I finished. I slid the paper across the table to her, and she looked amazed. “Wow! Quinn, this is really good! Wait-” she looked at me, then at the paper, and back at me, confused. “I-Is this me?” she asked. “Oh! Uh.. yeah.” I replied, blushing a little bit. Someone then called our orders and I stood up quickly and rushed over to get them. When I came back, my phone started ringing. It was Jay! This was odd, since I told him that I’d be on the date and therefore he knew not to bother me. “One second, sorry.” I picked up my phone and answered. “Jay, what is it? You know I’m busy right now.” I asked him. I saw Sky look at me, probably confused about who Jay was. “I have some huge gossip. Like HUGE. You can put the phone on speaker, Sky should hear this too.” Jay said. “Do you want me to tell her about the situation..?” I asked. “Yeah, you can tell her,” he replied. I put the phone on speaker and explained quickly about who Jay was and then I let him speak. “We’re getting a new kid in our class! Apparently this sophomore skipped a grade into our class, and is only 15 even though everyone else is normally 16 or 17 in junior year!” Jay exclaimed. “Wow! What’s their name?” Sky asked. “From what I’ve heard, they’re non-binary like Quinn, but the teachers don’t know yet. Their deadname is Hannah and their preferred name is Sam.” Jay explained. “Who told you?” I asked. “My little brother. Apparently Sam’s been talking about it to their class all week.” This was crazy. We were getting a new student!!!
