I nervously approached the door, scared to face the judgmental looks, whispers, and chuckles about me. I didn't want to wear this, but I was forced to by my mom, to "make a good first impression." My mom adored traditional feminine things, like skirts, jewels, and ribbons but she never got to express that love. But my dad was relatively chill and didn't mind how I wanted to dress as long as I was happy and appropriate. I mean, it's not like I'm not too fond of girly things, I don't mind them. It's just that too many of them get annoying. My parents are divorced, so every time I go to my dad's house on the weekends, I always take clothes from my stash of things that my mom didn't know about at his house and go places with him in things I'm comfortable in. Because she wanted some form of control in her life, my mom felt that the next best option was to give birth to a daughter and force her to pursue her childhood hopes and dreams that never came to reality. I approached the guard in front of the school with a smile plastered on my face, and I said "I'm new here. Where's the principal's office?" It accidentally came out a bit rude. With her emotionless yet stern face, she said "Go down the hallway, through the cafeteria, take a right turn, and you'll find it." It was pretty confusing, but I managed to find my way there, trying to ignore the snickers and comments about me. I remember the first time I met /her/ vividly. I placed my hand on the cold metal doorknob and creaked it open. The principal's office was ornate and pleasant, with a purple, black, and white theme like the rest of the school. I took a seat, beads of sweat forming on my skin. The principal said "Hi! You're Charlotte Colton, right?" I nodded my head nervously. She said "Welcome to our school! We're glad to have you as one of our attendants. It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Mrs. Scarlett, your principal for the school year." She explained to me some programs they offer, what they do, etc. It was pretty boring. She gave me a copy of the student handbook and said "Also, since you're new here, I will assign you a guide! Your guide will walk you around, tour the school, etc for the rest of the week." I froze in fear. I was scared, but a part of me knew I needed this. After all, I just came here 20 minutes ago, and I had no idea what I was doing. She called over someone to be my buddy. The moment we locked eyes, a glimpse of hope bloomed in my head. Maybe this could work out! She was gorgeous. She was my dream style...the one I would've been if I wasn't practically forced to dress like a creepy porcelain doll. Her eyes looked dull on the outside, but if you took a deeper dive, you could tell that there was more on the inside. She said in a cold but also warm voice: "Hi. I'm Envy." I also introduced myself in return, saying in what I hoped was a confident voice: "Hi! I'm Charlotte. It's a pleasure to meet you!" Envy did a little eye roll, and a small but remarkable smile also formed on her face. Mrs. Scarlett said in a welcoming tone "Envy, you'll help Charlotte get used to our routines, tour her around the school, etc, okay?" Envy nodded and said, "Yes, ma'am." Mrs. Scarlett said "Great! I'll be sending you two off to class now." She handed me a piece of paper. "You two go to classroom 49 on the left wing of the second floor, okay? I'll be sending you off now. Best wishes!" And with that, me and Envy walked out of her room and started walking down the hall together for the first time.
