DTAE - Angemaur!

arrows/space +click to zoom <3 newest potential addition to the icy gang! this is angemaur, or mau for short <3 they/them for simplicity's sake but he/him works too Mau, like the others, was frozen in the ice bridge and transformed from a little mouse friend into a bigger shapeshifter friend! In their base form, Angemaur is a silly little mix of a shiba inu and probably a pigeon or something! When they get startled or feel any intense emotion general, they poof back into a mouse (this is where the Mau nickname applies)! So onto the actual art! 1- concept art! i drew this nearly a month and half ago because busy aa T//T not the final designs, mostly just a bit of experimentation! 2- Mau scene! scratch made the file a lot smaller than it actually is so it's a bit crunchy, apologies! can never have an icy gang compilation without showing the ice bridge somewhere <3 3- Redraw of my DTAE for Issen last year, now including Glossy and Angemaur! sleepy ice dad <3 4- SECRET SURPRISE I DID AN ANIMATION! i had to post it separately since i did it on ibis and didn't want to deal with the hassle of the frames so here's that! https://youtu.be/hN5gQQPZWqs messy so also not the final designs but i like it <3 ANYWAY ONTO THE ABRUPT LORE Angemaur is sort of a mashup of the words Angel and Glaumaura (which is the word for owl heaven in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series) but vaguely french sounding! (Pronunciation is basically just "on-juh-more" for those of you who do not know french verbs) There are several reasons why! -most notably it's just from the really adorable design (the wings and the light and golden accents make him seem very lovely and pure <3) -and also perhaps for another reason thhhat hopefully won't be a total dealbreaker?? I don't have it drawn here but I do have it formed pretty well in my mind! Issen and Glossy were naturally released from the Ice Bridge - they got their ticket out when their portion of the bridge melted - so they're biologically sound since the magic of the bridge aims to create the "perfect specimen," so to speak, out of creatures that it captures (not that the icy gang is aware of this of course <3). That means that, while they're not immortal, they have good health and drastically increased lifespans (which they are also not aware of because i am evil <3)! After having rescued Glossy and adjusted her to life in the Very Cold Area that they inhabit, the icy gang starts to patrol the ice bridge as a sort of "search and rescue" for creatures who have been trapped within it. However, the ice is thick and the bridge is long as all heck (not to mention suspended high over large bodies of freezing saltwater) so this is a pretty difficult task and they're likely often unable to spot frozen friends to begin with... ...but one day, they happen across Mau frozen in a more accessible portion of the bridge! Up to this point they had only been coming up with potential plans for how to free creatures from the ice, but their most successful method so far seemed to be brute force, since Elwynn and Myca pecked at the melting ice to help Issen get out when they first happened upon him (and Glossy later down the line). A slight oversight the icy gang neglected to consider was that when they were discovered, Issen and Glossy were nearly free from the ice already, whereas Mau was trapped much deeper than they (this means that his body was not finished being transformed). Undeterred, the icy gang work day and night chipping away at the ice in order to free Mau and successfully free him and bring him home with them and he adjusts quickly! ahhh but then bad things oh no! mau starts to show signs of internal issues because while they look fully developed from the outside, they are actually! drumroll please! underdeveloped on the inside! surely nothing bad will come of this though? surely! (this is all i'm currently disclosing so scout doesn't disown me and never let me near this design again i'm sorry <3)
