_-Prologue-_ Some say that few go in and return in one piece. Others say "What's the point? you have everything you'd ever need here." And yet, I know that something out there is calling me. I've never really been daunted by fear, but then again, I've always been safe. I feel I'm being dragged toward the valley, something's out there and I'm coming. _-Chapter 1-_ I lived with my trainer, a kind human who taught me how to hunt and every morning, as I was taught I would go and catch a rabbit or a hare or maybe even a fish if I wanted to get my paws wet but I'd never really experienced true freedom. I wanted to explore and find other wolves. I'd heard of a pack down in a valley. It would be a long trek but deep down I knew that's where I belonged. So one night when the stars lit the sky and the half moon shone brightly, I set out to the valley. _-Chapter 2-_ I remember that evening well. The sun had just hidden behind the great mountains that I and my trainer lived on and then the air around me was rapidly getting colder, crisper, fresher. I glanced back at my trainer's den for the last time before racing through the shallow snow that covered the slope. I smelt the sharp scent of the pine forest, a breeze swept through my fur as I raced through the trees and away from my old life. Free. Wild. It was taking longer to get to the valley than I had first anticipated and my paws stung from the pine needles and the freezing cold snow so I found a stream and rested. As I lapped up the much-needed water, something caught the corner of my eye, a deer's soft, brown fur behind the bushes. I snuck toward them, crouched so low that my belly fur brushed the dusty ground. It was still dark when I returned to the stream, carrying the body of a hare, but I could see the faint, warm, glow of dawn. It had been obvious as soon as I started chasing the deer herd that I could never have taken down even the weakest of the herd. Deer hunting takes teamwork and strength has well as speed and I didn't exactly have a team to help me. I gulped down the hare and stared down into the valley. It seemed to stretch out across the horizon, inviting me to come but I still had a trek down first. I gazed at it as the rising sun filled the snow-covered world with light, warming my fur and I smelt the sweet air and knew that the valley was where I was meant to be. _-Chapter 3-_
