~intro~ Ello, all! Welcome to the Warrior Cat Fanfiction Cliche Guide! In this series of projects, I will teach you the do's and don't's of warrior cats writing. In this project, I will be discussing the absolute basics: what cats can and can't do. ~ . 1.1 : Glittersparkle (the cliche protagonist I'll use for this guide) closed her eyes as a single shimmering, perfect tear escaped her beautiful blue eye. "Oh, Strongstrength (her man), whatever will I do without you?" Firstly, cats can't shed tears for emotional reasons. If they /are/ crying, they must be sick or have debris lodged in their eye. So crying is possible, just not in sadness. If your character is sad, represent this in their body language. Ears back, tail tucked, hair standing on end. It is completely reasonable to even have your cats sob or make other sad noises instead to indicate grief. "Oh, Strongstrength, whatever will I do without you!" Glittersparkle sobbed. . 1.2 : Glittersparkle laughed a pretty, light laugh that sounded like stars shimmering. "Oh, Strongstrength! How funny you are!" she giggled. Cats cannot laugh! Not at all. They purr, or make a mrrow sound. Simple answer. "Oh, Strongstrength, how funny you are!" Glittersparkle purred. . 1.3 : Glittersparkle's tail was fluffy and luscious and soft like the rest of her fur. Her ears were tufted and softly rounded, perfectly framing her beautiful face. But all each of these did was sit there and look pretty. I mean, what useful purpose could either of these serve besides make our lovely, beautiful hero even more lovely and beautiful? Tails and ears are often overlooked since humans can't express ourselves with these. But for cats, their tails and ears are an essential part of decoding their body language. -tail- . tail straight up : happy and confident. If the tail tip is twitching, this cat will be full to the brim with glee. . tail high, tip curved : playful . low : angy or serious . between legs : nervous, submissive, guilty, or stressed . fluffed up : scared and aggressive . twitchy \\ whippy back and forth : madmadmad . swishy sideways : interested ( usually a kit playing with a toy or anyone else hunting ) . wrapped : huggy <3 -ears- . flat pressed : madmadmad or spoopy . back : angy . forward : happy Glittersparkle's fluffy, luscious, soft tail was always held high, broad, fluffy tip twitching. Her softly rounded, tufted ears framed her face, the fluffy inner fur always greeting other cats at the same time as her face. . 1.4 : Glittersparkle grabbed the 100 pieces of prey she just caught in her front paws. Cats don't grab stuff in their front paws to carry it. Remember, they need these to walk! Instead, have your cat carry things in their mouth. If they have a big bundle, like a rabbit they caught or a fallen branch they're helping remove from camp, maybe spice it up and have them carry it on their back. Also note that cats may poke or pick up things with their claws, but NEVER carry. Thanks to for this input! Glittersparkle carried several hares in her mouth, bearing a ginemenosaurus-orange wolf body on her back. . 1.5: In PerfectClan, the blind people are super weak and helpless and cranky. That's the only disability possible there, too. Thanks to for the input regarding this entry! Most fanfiction I've seen has only had blindness as a disability. Sure, there were a few cats missing limbs, some deaf cats, but that's about as far as it would go. I've also seen widely adopted tropes regarding them. They would always be helpless, crabby medicine cats. There are a whole range of disabilities, both physical and mental. Autism, ADHD, paralysis, and even albinism can affect cats in different ways. Do your research, balance creativity and reality, and make sure you avoid creating a cat who is completely helpless because they are disabled! PerfectClan had doubts about having a blind warrior, but they proved that they were capable and loyal, even if they did things in a different way. ~ ~outro~ Thank you for joining in and fixing this glorious, perfect, beautiful, amazing, yass, slayful, protagonist with me!
