~intro~ Ello, all! Welcome to the Warrior Cat Fanfiction Cliche Guide! In this series of projects, I will teach you the do's and don't's of warrior cats writing. In this project, I will be discussing naming. ~ . 2.1 : Glittersparkle's fav out of a billion gajillion cute kawaii kids and grandkids was Dogcat. While "Hound", "Wolf", "Coyote", or other canine-inspired names can be a fierce or majestic name for your cats, a name like "Dog" is not very good. Let me explain. While wolves are fierce and tough predators, dogs are considered the slobbering enemies of cats that meekly heel to a twoleg's command. What kind of mother would call their kit by the name of a slobbering, stupid animal? Also, the name cat- as a prefix or suffix- is not a good idea. Have you ever seen a human named Human Smith or John Human? Hugh Mann is an exception. Instead of Dogcat, maybe Wolfclaw. . 2.2 : Glittersparkle's other fav of her kids and grandkids was Whalekelp. Most Clans wouldn't live under water. If there are no whales on land, and kelp doesn't grow there, then don't name a character Whalekelp. If your cats don't live in a desert, don't name one Cactus-. The only exceptions are Clans in which the lore points to an animal, like lions, tigers, and leopards in canon. Many, many areas have rivers and streams. Whalekelp could still have an aquatic name, but more freshwater. How about Minnowreed? . 2.3 : Glittersparkle looked at the window. "House cat! Your humans' truck just hit my husband with the axes that fell off the bed!" Think about what cats know exist. A house is a twoleg den. A human is a twoleg. Any vehicle is a monster. A spouse/husband/wife is a m8. A weapon is a shiny stick. What your cats know about also depends on your personal lore. Do they know about crystals? Do they know what a shelter/pound is? When thinking about this, take into consideration their circumstances. Are they living in the alleys of a bustling metropolis, or in a remote forest that never sees humans? For example, in my fanfiction, my Clans were founded only about 100 moons ago, a bit less than the lifespan of an elder. They were also founded by kittypets. In that world, elders tell tales of the cattery, a place where she-cats are forced to have kits with toms that twolegs choose. Of course, us humans know about catteries. But with their former-kittypet circumstance they know about it, too. Who knows? Maybe in time they will forget about it as the stories fade out of popular tradition. But think for yourself. Glittersparkle looked at the hole in the twoleg den. "Kittypet! Your twolegs' monster just hit my m8 with the shiny sticks that fell off of it!"
. 2.4: Glittersparkle's other other fav was Shimmeringcatcher. Sometimes less is more! You don't always need the /longest/, /most unique/ name to be memorable to stand out. Think about this: what can you describe about Blackclaw from their name? And Shimmeringcatcher? When I say Blackclaw, you think a black cat who is a strong or fierce warrior. When I say Shimmercatcher, can you describe a single thing about them? When you say Blackclaw is too boring for my action-packed, exciting book, I say maybe it doesn't have to be. The Warriors series is still pretty action packed with cats that have simple names like Bluefur. Another secret to simple but cool names is picking one, prefix or suffix, to spruce up. Like instead of fierce Blackclaw, we could have intelligent, sharp, strong Ravenclaw. Also, having a sort-of-but-not-too-boring prefix AND suffix could balance each other out and sound great. Like instead of Blackclaw, maybe Nightstorm. . 2.5 : Glittersparkle's nickname was Glittersparkle. It is not often that I see nicknames in Warriors fanfiction. The only times I have, they have been basic nicknames consisting of the prefix. So, "Glitter." But there is so much more out there! Suffixes, events, talents, inside jokes... even a part of the prefix- the possibilities are endless! Let's call her "Spark", after her suffix, "Sparkle". Now to fix Glittersparkle >:3 Glittersparkle is a soft, fluffy, cute, pretty, shimmering, perfect silver tabby she-cat with perfect white speckles that look like perfect stars in her fur. Her tail is super fluffy and perfect. Her fluffy, tufted ears are softly rounded and perfectly frame her perfect face. She has perfect, sparkling, wide, round, icy blue eyes. Her perfect fluffy paws are dainty and soft. Her perfect muzzle is pointed gently. The parts of her perfect fluffy fur that do not have stars I mean white speckles on them have fluffy white perfect crescent moon shapes. Did I mention she is perfect and fluffy? Alright, alright, appearances set aside, let's think hard about this. Let's gut her drawn out descriptions and root out the basics. She is silver. Most prefixes are based on fur color, since kits don't open their eyes OR get the eye color they will keep in adulthood until they are a few moons old. That is a long time to have no name. Names may also be inspired by ancestors. Like when your middle name is Mary after you great grandmother or something like that. So prefixes for grey or silver tabby cats are: . Grey . Silver . Fish . Willow . Stripe . Frost . Ice . Cold . Clear . Feather . Water . River . Stream Alright. So now we have a good list of prefixes. I'm going to pick Feather-. With appearances creating the prefix, most suffixes are based on a special skill or personality. (pelt, fur, and tail are always and option) She is caring, loving, lovable, strong, independent, and intelligent. . Heart . Song . River . Stream . Bird I like how Feathersong sounds, so why don't we choose that one? Now her name is all fixed.
