This label post was originally shared Dec. 2023. The definition has been edited and reposted November 27 2025 What is Cambitherian, or Cambikin? (I would like to preface this by mentioning that I coined this label with a friend over 2 years ago, and I do not have access to most/any of our original coiner posts.) Initially coined as ‘a label for someone who is fluid between therian/otherkin and animalhearted/otherhearted usually due to connection changes’, cambikin encompasses more than just that. Cambikin can be used as a ‘catch all’ term for grey-areas in-between Kin and Hearted, as the line between them isn’t as black and white as you’d expect. It can include more than just fluidity between heart/kin, but also simultaneously being kin+hearted to one or more things, not being able to tell if you’re kin or hearted, your connection to your type influencing how much you feel like it etc. just to name a few. Someone who’s cambikin is a cat could experience being Catkin one day, then possibly be cat hearted later, or both at the same time when they usually could be just one or the other. When you hear ‘hearted being about identity with something and kin being identity as something, you usually assume this to be a perfectly clear line that you can obviously tell the difference between, but thats not quite the case. Whether it’s due to how your brain is processing things or just straight up not being able to identify your own experiences easily, it can be very hard to tell the difference between identity as something and identity with something. Sometimes they can look very very similar. That’s why cambikin exists. My own initial experience with alter humanity was a flicker type I believed to be a cambitype, which although I still experience with my other kins, I dont quite label it that way. Cambikin can also be referred to as cambihearted, or cambitherian, whichever label makes someone more comfortable. kin/hearttypes for cambikins can be referred to as hearttypes, kintypes, or cambitypes, again whatever the user prefers.
