/If the world exists only in your head, what happens if something is wrong with your head?/ It was another gray, foggy evening, and the clocks were striking nineteen. Tony was on his way home from work, having just closed up the cafe he worked at. Although the streets were fairly quiet, they felt louder than usual to him. Of course, everything these days felt louder than usual. Even the littlest things, such as the scratch of a pencil, or the tapping of footsteps sounded noisy and annoying. Sometimes, certain things annoyed him more than most. Today, it was the endless chattering of the telescreens. He would never admit it annoyed him, but it was definitely a pain to be distracted by the constant talking and whirring when he was supposed to be focusing. Even the littlest sound from it completely threw off his train of thought. Still, he would put up with it. It wasn’t like he had much of a choice. He couldn’t exactly turn off the telescreen. ‘Maybe tomorrow I could ask for a place to work that is more quiet, and farther from the screen,’ he thought. ‘Then I’ll be able to work well. If I’m lucky, they’ll let me stay away from the screens, and just clean the back. Or maybe they’ll even let me do some work outside! That would be nice. If I could just convince them-‘ His thoughts were suddenly cut off by a voice. /Tony…/ He stopped and looked around. “Hello?” He asked, but no one replied. No one was even nearby. /Tony…/ Again, he heard someone call his name. “Did someone call me?” No response. /Tony!/ A third time, he heard the voice call his name. Now, Tony was getting nervous. He waited to see if the voice would speak again, but there was nothing. Nobody had spoke to him, yet he knew he heard someone say his name. Confused and scared, he continued his walk back to his apartment, now occasionally looking over his shoulder to see if someone was following him.
