I woke up to screaming, and since I didn’t have siblings, it was my parents. I groaned and forced myself to get dressed. When I opened my closet, I looked for my hat and boots, but they were gone. “Mami! Where are my boots and hat?” I yelled, coming down the stairs. “I threw them out!” She said cheerfully, laying some bacon on the pan. I felt my heart shatter, because she threw away my stuff, and she was eating meat. “Now, don’t look so sad, I got you a dress!” She said when she saw my face. She went to the counter and grabbed a white box. I opened it and found the most pink, ruffly, sparkly dress I’d ever seen in my life. “Try it on!” My mother said. I slipped into my room and put on the dress. It was lightweight and had cool fabric, but it didn’t make it any better. I walked out. “Great! Now that I’ve tricked you into getting in your party outfit, time for hair and makeup!” My mother clapped her hands and steered me into the bathroom. This was horrible. I’ve had my hair done at the salon, and had my makeup done by a professional, but my mother? This was a whole new level of torture. My mother’s phone rang on the counter while she was washing her hands. “Answer it, Aurora,” She told me, so I put it to my ear. “Hello?” That voice. I loved it. “JAKE!” I yelled into the phone, and then heard scuffling. “Aurora! I missed you! Wanna video chat?” He said. “Yep, one sec!” I hung up the phone and fixed my posture. A minute later the phone rang again, so I answered and saw my best friend for the first time in years. His hair was longer, and he was taller aswell. Posy, Lila, and John surrounded him. Posy was his twin sister, Lila was the oldest, and John was the middle child. Him and Posy were the youngest. “Woah, what’s going on?” He asked. “Apparently I have some kind of party to go to, so Mami’s doing my hair and makeup,” I scowled when Mami pulled my hair. “Oof, I have a sleepover soon with J and Marcus,” He smiled, running his fingers through his hair. “They’re already here though,” As if on cue, a chubby round face with oodles of black curls and a sandy-haired boy popped up on the screen, smiling. “Hey!” They said in unison. “Hey, J, hey Marc,” I said, grinning. J’s sandy blonde hair fell in his eyes, and Marcus’ curly hair bounced all over the place as he took off running. “His ADHD’s all over the place today,” J said, looking at Marcus. “I get it,” “Aurora! Hang up the phone please!” My father called from the kitchen. “Aw, but-” my mother grabbed the phone from my hands and hit the end button. “Up, let’s go,” She said when she finished my lips. I stood up and stepped into a pair of pink flats. “C’mon, in the car,” My father said, straightening his tie. Now the party of torture begins.
