I was at the beach, going about my business as I strolled leisurely in the ocean. Then I heard "MATEO, MATEOOO!!!" screamed from a long distance, and it came from a young woman who appeared to be looking for her son, Mateo, as she ran along the beach. My foot hit something soft underwater as I continued to walk. When I looked underneath, I saw a completely helpless child—perhaps two or three years old—LYING THERE UNRESPONSIVELY IN THE WATER!! I quickly grabbed the child, then carried him to the shore, and performed CPR—something I had never done on an actual person before. It was really terrifying because there were people all around us, observing everything that was happening. That child was not breathing, not moving a muscle. I did CPR for like 10 minutes while remaining calm. "OH MY GOD, THERE'S MATEO!!!" said the woman when she first spotted us. The woman called the ambulance and the lifeguards. She cried uncontrollably as they were on their way, and I continued to perform CPR. Mateo then began to progressively wake up as time went on. Finally, he had a pulse! Then he started crying and coughing up water. When the lifeguards arrived and realized he was conscious now, they gave him an oxygen mask before bringing him to the hospital. His mother thanked me for "bringing her little boy back," which made me feel so good inside. <33 I politely denied her attempt to give me reais because I didn't revive the child in order to receive anything. I was just as terrified as she was, and I was determined to help him. So..yeah. It's official. I am a hero. It's such a great feeling. I felt useful and proud. :D The End.
