The last Child of the Sun has been conceptualized! And I'm confirming now there will be a stat rolling system. I don't intend for endings to necessarily be locked behind rolls/choices that will require certain stats. It will be more like stats open up different pathways and unlock rewards/advantages/dialogue. I also want to reward players for trying a roll and intentionally failing it, so there will be a system in place for that. On character creation, you will be able to boost or dump any stats up to -2 or +2, as long as your stat total evens out to 0. You may then select a signature skill to add an additional +1 to. Rolls will be done with 1d6, and you will be told a number you need to beat on any given skill check. You may spend Aetus to reroll, or gain Aetus if you choose to fail the roll without trying. Failure can involve losing favor with a character, getting injured, having your Goomble battle with the character at a disadvantage, or accidentally stumbling into a new path that otherwise would've remained hidden if you succeeded. Different status effects or story conditions can also increase or decrease a roll on a given option. I am currently also considering a perk system that would give you extra small bonuses for specific types of rolls, like bonus money/Aetus, Goomble experience, more rewards for failing on purpose, or +1 to rolls of a specific nature. I won't confirm such a feature yet though.
