“Hey sweetie,” the note read. “You’re back home safe. But you’ve got to follow every single word to stay alive. This note is your lifeline. Got it?” I carried the note with me as I walked around the house, reading each step carefully. “First thing: lock the big door and then bathroom door so no creature can get in.” I soon did that, shaking from panic. “Step two: use mine and daddy’s left over newspapers to cover up all the windows. Block the outside light like your life depends on it. Because it does.” I go to my mothers room and search around for her newspapers. She always had some laying around just in case. I gathered them up and used the only tape I could find to paste them onto all the windows. Luckily there weren’t many. After finishing that, I continued to read the note, “I have left a red doll for you. Keep it close. Don’t let it wander away from you.” I looked around for the red doll. Unexpectedly, it appeared right behind me on the kitchen counter. I grabbed it like my mother’s note had suggested, and kept it secure under my arm, then continued on with the note.
“Step three: look for anything blue or white. Trash them immediately. If they’re big, get them in the bathroom, but make sure to knock on the door before opening it. Then, and only then will you turn on the light.” I did as suggested. I walked around every room for anything of those colors. Why blue and white? I’m not sure. Maybe the monsters like those colors. I found everything in the shade of blue or white, and gathered them into a pile to bring outside. Once I was back inside from trashing the objects, I kept reading, praying that I would stay alive for this. I wanted to see my mother again. I then knocked on the bathroom door, then turned the lights on in the living space in my house, and stayed put for a moment. I pulled out my mothers note one more time before I entered the bathroom, and read, “If you spot a dark shape, kill the light, grab the doll, and run back to mum and dad’s room, and hurry. Shut that door as well.” I peeked through the bathroom door and spotted a large, black figure standing idle in the bathroom. I resisted my urge to scream, quickly turned off the light, and ran to my parents room, unsure if I should leave the objects there, or pull them somewhere else. I left them. Once I entered the room, I shut the door, and pulled out the note. “Step four: once in my bedroom, peek under the door to see if the lights in the living space are flickering.” I gathered all the strength I could to get out of the bed, and haul myself over to the door, laid down on the floor, and looked out to the living room. No flickering lights. “What do I do, what do I do,” I whispered to myself, hoping the creatures didn’t have super hearing, and pulled the note back out. “If they are, stay in my room, but if they are not, check the bathroom once again. But remember, don’t open the door right away.” I stared at the note blankley for a few seconds, then got up and walked to the bathroom door quickly and quietly with my doll still in hand. I knocked on the door, then looked through the crack, and back at my note. “If the shadow has vanished, bring the blue and white objects inside ASAP. Remember, ONLY turn off the light in the bathroom. Keep the other rooms lit.” I quickly dragged the objects inside, with my doll on top of the couch. I then shut the light off, and went back to my parents room. “There is food in the fridge, warm it up before eating it, but DO NOT eat it all.” I walked to the kitchen and searched the fridge for anything good to eat. “Just some macaroni,” I thought to myself, and pulled it out and put it in the microwave. After eating my food, I began to feel tired so I grabbed out the note, hoping for guidance. “If you are tired at night, go to my room. In there, you will see a white closet you have never seen before. It’s safe, don’t worry, but before you go to bed, check the closet. Carefully peek through the small gap. If you see a set of blue eyes watching from the inside, shine your flashlight on it until they vanish.” I did as the note said, and walked over to my parents room with my doll. I looked around the room until I found the closet. I peeked through the opening, and saw a pair of creepy bright blue eyes staring at me. I quickly turned my flashlight on, and shined it inside the closet, and waited for the figure to vanish. I then sat on the bed, and grabbed the note, hoping it would soon be safe to sleep. “One last thing before bed, grab a bag from the pantry and hang it on the outside of the door, on the doorknob. Lock the door, then go rest. In the morning, you’ll find the second note inside the bedside drawer. Don’t read it early. Your father and I trust that you can make it. Make it to the second day, my love.” I then did as told, yawning from tiredness. I slowly tip-toed to the pantry to retrieve a bag, and hung it on the doorknob. I then opened the door, and walked inside, locking it once I entered. I grabbed my doll, and wrapped it tightly with my arms, and laid down in bed. I slowly drifted off into a world of sleep. Goodnight.
