Chapter two of ‘Zenobia: Daughter of Time’. ————————————————————————— I walked to the store, a bounce in my step as I whistled a tune my mother had taught us… me and Leo, that is. Leo was the one who remembered it. He remembers everything. While my brain is rambling, I approach the store… and proceed to walk into a man in a blue suit. “Yeesh, kid, watch where you’re walking.” He muttered. “Um, I, uh…” Wow. Aren’t I such an extrovert? It didn’t matter though, because he just rolled his eyes and walked away. I walked into the store and looked down at the list- Oh. Yeah. No list. I gulped. I need lists. They organize stuff! They help you! Okay. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Every time we go to the store, Leo gets what he calls, ‘The Necessities’. Stuff like food and water. That way, we can save our money for stuff like laundromats. I grabbed a cart and walked down the aisle, grabbing basic food and plastic bottles of water. I had two dollars left, and one more thing to grab. Bread. I don’t know about you, but my store runs out of bread QUICK. I don’t know why bread, but we are never able to get bread when we go to the store. So I ran to the bread aisle, and…someone was already there. A boy with green eyes and striped blue hair was staring at me. He must know. He glanced at the last loaf of bread and mouthed, ‘Mine.’ If he took that amazing, last piece of bread, I was toast. Pun intended. I shook my head and looked down. My hands clenched. When I looked up again his hand was reaching for the bread. As if on reflex, I held my hand to stop him, and… Everything stopped.
