"I'm the mascot of an evil corporation!"
For context, now that it's 2024, the "Steamboat Willie" version of Mickey Mouse is in the public domain, meaning anyone can use the character for any purpose, commercial or otherwise. If you wanted to make your own Mickey Mouse movie, now you can. Nobody can stop you now. This is significant because Disney has famously been obsessive about protecting Mickey Mouse's copyright. They even got the government to change copyright law so they could control the character for even longer (something I think is unethical and should be illegal). Now their grip is beginning to weaken. I am commemorating this with this art piece in which Mickey Mouse celebrates his freedom by saying whatever he wants, not caring if it's unsavory, and being glad that Disney can't stop him. Welcome to the public domain, Mickey. You're finally free.
