Happy 100th birthday to the guy who started it all. The reason I, or any other bluegrass picker, plays the banjo. Here is a tribute as well as a collection of Earl Scruggs' best songs (of course they're all great!) I would record a cover but it's too late. Earl Scruggs was a banjo player from North Carolina. He is best known for having created the world renowned three finger style of playing, which was a big leap from the old time styles into a more "modern" bluegrass sound. His approach allowed for the banjo to be played at breakneck speeds, which stepped it up from backup to a lead instrument. He inspired a whole new generation of banjo players including J.D Crowe, Doug Dilliard, Ralph Stanley and many others! If you've ever heard banjo music, you've no doubt heard Earl's style.
