<space / click bg to proceed> <hold to zoom> <scroll down for process walkthrough> My second fanart of Furina! I kinda rushed on everything below the waist, but I like how the hair and face turned out. I REALLY REALLY love her character animation where she sits on a water thingy and eats cake, and she's my favourite character design wise, so I just HAD to draw fanart for her. I'll go through the process, as I have a few helpful tips to share. 1. Sketch. Sometimes my digital art is inspired by art from my sketchbook. I recommend sketching out a few compositions on paper before starting a large art piece. It'll save you time and lead to better composition. Ngl, I prefer her expression here. 2. Base colours. Often I don't use solid blocks of colours in my bases because adding little colour variations is far more visually interesting. This can depend on artstyle though - as my art is more illustration focused, I prefer more detail. With colour variation, I like to use what I call the 'battery method'. One side of your artwork should be light/warm coloured and the other dark/cool coloured. You can see that her head is in the warm lighting to draw attention. 3. Rendering. I won't go over this much, as it's a complex process, but I spend hours adding more colour variations and detail, as well as fixing mistakes in the previous sections. This probably takes up the majority of my time. 4. Drawing cake. You won't be drawing cake in every artwork, so I won't talk about this in detail. 5. Final detailing and special effects. This is where you add the edge lighting in a solid colour, add some chromatic aberration if that's your thing and add multiply layers and blurs. Focus on adding extra atmosphere to the artwork. The final result of your artwork heavily depends on how much time you spent on each step. Personally, I spend ~70% of my time rendering, while the other steps take around 15 minutes each.
