!!! SPOILERS FOR THE BROKEN CODE !!! !!! MANY MENTIONS OF DEATH AND KILLING (But no blood) !!! Shadowsight looked around. The battle was gone. All that was left was thick, gray clouds surrounding him. /Am I dead?/ he wondered. /Not yet./ Ashfur's voice answered him. The gray tom emerged from the fog, his coat blending with the swirling clouds. "Where are we?" Shadowsight asked. "In your mind," replied Ashfur. "Get out of it!" Shadowsight hissed. "You're dying," Ashfur purred, circling Shadowsight. "You don't have to die. You can join me." "Why would I do that?" Shadowsight questioned with a glare. "You'll live. I can get you out of this place. You just have to do one thing. Kill Bristlefrost." "I would never." "Think about it. The battle would end. And she wouldn't even see it coming. And once she's dead, Rootspring will be too heartbroken to fight. Both he and Bristlefrost will be gone, and you'll be on my side. Firestar will lose hope. There will be peace. Don't you want peace?" Peace. Of course Shadowsight wanted peace. Everyone wanted peace. It would be so nice to stop the fighting, end the struggle. "I want the battle to end," he mewed eventually. "You can make that happen. You just have to kill one cat." Shadowsight paused, and then nodded. "Good. Now go." And with that, he vanished into the smoky darkness. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Ashfur had lied. The battle had ended, yes, but there was not peace. Shadowsight had watched Ashfur throw Firestar into the dark waters. He had seen Ashfur send his army of cats upon the Clans. It was just like the invasion Shadowsight's mother had told him about. All the cats who died were then controlled by Ashfur. His army had grown. And Shadowsight? Ashfur had controlled Dovewing, and Shadowsight was killed by his own mother. He was now just another possessed spirit. He watched the Clans be torn apart with despair, helpless. He could only think about how it was all his fault.
Most of the beginning bit was taken from A Light in the Mist, chapter 17, although most of it was rephrased. Art by me Idea by @V--Swift--V I originally planned to have Bristlefrost fail to save Shadowsight, but as I was looking at the book for reference I realized Ashfur’s deal was better.
