HELLO?” My best friend Alicia shouted, waving her hand in front of my face. “Did you hear a single thing I just said?” “Um, yes?” I shrugged my shoulders as she sighed and thrust a flyer into my hands. I looked down at it without seeing a single thing. In my mind, I was still replaying the memory of finally playing the latest video game, Clueless Kingdom. It had been the best three minutes of my life, even if I never got to play it again. “So? Aren’t you excited? You have to join!” Alicia said, waiting expectantly. I blinked and the paper came back into focus. It read “Calling all gamers! Test your skills in this epic battle between the best of the best! The best gamer wins a million dollars!” It sounded too good to be true, except for one tiny problem. “Yes, yes, but you know that my mom won’t let me join now. Ever since she married Bob, she’s been so strict. Eat your vegetables, do your laundry, have you done your homework Kienna?, show it to me, and NO VIDEO GAMES, KIENNA, you have to wake up at an ungodly hour tomorrow morning- you get it,” I complained. Alicia had been my best friend since first grade. While other friends had come and gone, Alicia was always there for me. And as such, she knew me better than anyone. She rolled her eyes saying, “Come on, you know you can come over to my house and use my laptop, like you’ve been doing for the past two months. Just tell her you’re coming over to work on a project. Because, you know, we are.” I smiled wistfully for a moment, imagining it, before returning to reality. “You don’t know how paranoid she gets now. She’ll probably want to see our “project” and ask why we can’t do it at my house.” “Did you read it? The winner gets one million dollars!
