Was it a patient? A doctor? Her sneakers squeaked against the marble floor as she skidded to a stop, blocked by the wall in her way. She turned around frantically, eyes skimming her surroundings before she swiveled her body to the side. She took a deep breath before rushing to the left of her scraping her arm on the concrete of the wall. As she felt the blood trickle down his arm, she smiled to himself. It wasn’t a happy smile. Why would it be? She was running straight to her impending doom. Ironic, isn’t it? How she had hoped for this to happen. How scared she is, actually faced with her hopes and dreams. She had decided to flirt with death, and look how that turned out. “If that’s how it’s gonna be, catch me if you can.” Her voice was a harsh whisper as she kept going, feeling the burn in her calves. This may be the last time she feels this way, why not savor it? She let out a dark chuckle, swinging his arms back and forth almost leisurely. Was this what it felt like, to accept your fate? Your death? No. This isn’t how she wanted to leave. She wanted it to be memorable, off a bridge or something. Not like this. Her smile turned into a scowl as she slammed his feet down with every pump of her legs, praying she wasn’t being followed by whatever she had seen earlier. Dee could see it. She could see the hole at the top of the hospital. She let out a sigh of relief, slowing her run to a jog. Maybe she would survive. With a gust of strength, a hand clasped onto her throat, holding her back. She let out a choked gasp. Not like this. Not like he had gone. But what could she do? She flailed around under the grip of the cold hand wrapped around her neck, pressuring it but not squeezing. She reached into his pocket and pulled out the haggard scalpel she had found in one of the rooms, gripping it in her hands. The cool of the handle relaxed her, but only for a moment. The hand holding Dee was joined by another, and they squeezed. Tight. Her jaw went slack as she gripped onto the scalpel for dear life, trying to raise her shaky hand to potentially stab whatever was holding her. She grunted and swiped at the air behind her, meeting something fleshy. She could hear a cry of pain, though it sounded more like a gurgling sound, from behind her and she stabbed the source deeper. The thing loosened its grip and she twisted himself out of it, turning the scalpel to the side to fully open the wound. Dee's vision was full of black spots as she stumbled away from his attacker. As she blinked furiously, she watched the black figure slink away. It was almost serpent like, the way it crawled. The trail it left was a murky purple color. There’s no way that’s human. No way. Her breath quickened as she sank to her knees, dropping the scalpel. It was covered in the purple goo, which she assumed was blood. She soon began to hyperventilate, grimacing as her heart started beating again. When had it stopped? Her body weighed him down as she collapsed on the floor, exhausted. What *was* that? Clutching her arm, Dee forced her legs to cooperate as she stumbled down the hallway. She could still see the light behind the film covering her eyes. Good. As she began to regain her balance, she could feel the adrenaline wear off. A flood of pain covered her, sinking it's grip into her skin. She let out a cry, lurching forward and flinging her arm out to the side. As her hand met a wall, she leaned all her body weight on it. She gritted her teeth, her body shaking. "You aren't this week. Dee. Don't stop, Dee." She whispered to herself, forcing her legs in front of the other. The blinding light was now taking over her vision, only a loose braid shielding her eyes. She reached out her unoccupied hand, grasping the air in front of her. As she fell upon the floor for a second time, she clawed her way to the center of the brightness. And there she found herself. dun dun dunnnnn
