The new kit opened his eyes, a cold wind whipping the side of his face. He flinched back and buried his face in the warm bedding of the nursery. “I told you it was a bad idea to have kits in leafbare,” Quailfoot sighed with a smile. Specklestep, Snowkit’s mother, shook her head and admired her kit thoughtfully. “I’ll keep him safe, Mother. Don’t worry.” The kit stepped outside of the nursery, his mother’s eyes following, and felt a snowflake fall on his nose. “Well, would you look at that,” Quailfoot said softly. “It’s snowing.” “I think I’ll call him Snowkit,” Specklstep announced, beckoning Snowkit back inside. “Snowkit,” Quailfoot muttered. “I like it. That’s a good name.” The three of them watched the snow fall, sheltered by the nursery’s cozy walls. The first snow of the season. How magical. Snowkit couldn’t wait to become the best cat PineClan had ever seen.
