The parade is over. The violent bombardment of sound and sight fades away from your mind slowly as you seek shelter, making your way to the tribute dorms. The halls are silent, and your breath echoes off the claustrophobic steel walls. Stepping towards the door, you place a paw on the handle and push it open. Exhausted from the display you put on earlier, you quite nearly collapse on your bed before you stop yourself from tripping over. Someone has left a message for you, it seems. A dull, black cube that seems to absorb all the light around it has been placed neatly on the ground. You can't really tell what material it's made out of, but it must be something durable due to the way your claws deflect off it. The geometry of the hexahedron is seamless, like a beautifully crafted void. Lifting the object up, you realize it is much heavier than it looks, and end up having to use both paws. Dropping it on top of the bed, the top face finally slides off of its own accord to reveal an envelope and a small device- a recording. [[ A MESSAGE TO ALL TRIBUTES: { Greetings. } The sound and visual quality is especially poor for a Capitol tape. Between the flecks of archaic visual buzz, a face can be seen staring back at you. The cat is none other than Angel, the victor of the previous round. { This video has been sent to every one of the ninety-four tributes as an invitation. To what, you may wonder? Should you accept, you will be facing your first and only taste of the true horror before you are sent into the cataclysmic arena. I hope you possess the skill required to survive its infallible anathema in its entirety, or otherwise believe you do. } Looks like the message wasn't intended for you only. You're going to have competition. { Although the details of the… "installation" I have set up must remain discreet for now, its reveal will take place upon the initiation. Prepare yourselves. } { If you are interested in such an event, fill out the official application form enclosed within the envelope. Replace everything from the cube back inside, seal it, and deposit it in the collection box at the end of the hallway. You'll know where it is. Leviathan and I will collect your responses after a week. } Leviathan must be the hologram companion of the victor, but you can't see it appear in the tape. The only thing visible is Angel and their dispassionate stare. { From there, I will choose ten tributes. Of these ten tributes, five pairs of two will be created. They will attempt to display competency in the face of extreme distress of the psyche, of which the upcoming arena have no shortage of. } What a vague statement. { The winning pair will be mentored under me, and they will receive a specially-tailored prize that will have important applications in the arena. } { May the odds be ever in your favor. } ]] The recording clicks and comes to a stop. You're unable to play it a second time, so you drop the strange item back into the cube. You pull apart the envelope. The first thing that flutters out is a small note. Two sentences are scrawled onto it. "Some of you are chronic liars, and I would advise you to fill out the papers with a honest mind if you want to get accepted. Do not worry, for no one else but me will see your confessions." Confessions? Scanning the first page, you read each section in your mind. The foremost section regarding your name and district seem normal enough, but as you progress through the papers, you can't help but think that whatever Angel has planned doesn't seem to be something ordinary. You settle down and start writing, ink splattering onto the parchment. You're really not sure what you're feeling right now. Excitement? Suspicion? Curiosity? Or perhaps you're filling it out because you simply want to receive guidance. Because you want to survive. …Maybe what you're experiencing could only be termed as… fear?
