Moonshine swallowed. She could feel the worn fabric chafing against her forehead as Professor McGonagall placed the sorting hat on her head. It seemed like an age, until the hat yelled, "RAVENCLAW!" Moonshine let out a sigh she didn't even know she had been keeping in, and stood up, walking to the Ravenclaw table to sit with Maggie. Moonshine looked around. Anna, who she had seen with Maggie at the station, sat at the Hufflepuff table, her long dark hair now tied up with a leather band at the nape of her pale neck. The rest of the sorting went by quick. It ended with a, "Weasley, Fred!" and then a, "Weasley, George!" who were both put in Gryffindor. They walked over to the table together, identical cheeky grins on their faces. Then, a teacher in pale blue robes stepped up to a podium. He clapped his hands, and the entire hall fell silent, accompanied by a few shushes. "My name is Professor Dumbledore," the professor smiled. "I am the headmaster of Hogwarts, as I am sure most of you will know. Welcome, first years. A few notices before we begin: entrance to the Forbidden Forest is strictly prohibited, unless accompanied by a professor; please be mindful that some items are also forbidden, and will be confiscated, please see the full list on Mr Filch's door." "Who is Mr Filch?" Moonshine murmured. "The caretaker," Maggie said back. "Watch out for him. And his creepy cat." Moonshine nodded. "Now, I don't want to keep you, I'm sure you are all starving from your journey over here, so, let the feast begin!" Professor Dumbledore threw up his arms, and the empty plates on the tables suddenly filled with food. Chicken drumsticks, roast potatoes, steamed vegetables, porkchops, steak and kidney pie, Yorkshire puddings, and gravy. Normally, Moonshine didn't eat that much, but today she piled food onto her plate, and doused it in gravy. It was delicious. Maggie had done the same. "Good?" Moonshine asked, in between mouthfuls. Maggie nodded. The Great Hall was very quiet. There wasn't much room for talking, since everyone was shovelling food into their mouths. Once everyone had seemingly eaten their full, the food was magically exchanged by dessert, and everyone suddenly found somewhere to put it all. Moonshine had ice cream and a slice of chocolate cake. It was the best chocolate cake she had ever eaten. Even better than the ones her brother used to make. Moonshine felt suddenly disheartened at the thought of her brother, and his absence. But she distracted herself with more ice cream. She thought she was going to like it here.
