Okay so I just showed my sister the first fifty or so chapters of ToPH and I noticed a lot of details that I hadn't seen before. The biggest thing I realized is that Dave actually has a hidden backstory in the chapters when I paid more attention to his dialogue. First, and most obviously, Dave is friends with houndpaw, as he appears in the flashback inside the barn which he lives in with Perfectpaw. Second, Dave has two family members who he cares for. Before we get into the third detail we have to bring up information from Dave's dialogue in previous chapters. One thing that many people don't mention is how quickly Dave gets attached to Perfectpaw and is willing to risk his life to save him from McMuffins. It's almost as if Dave had lost someone and had a void that needed to be filled... Another detail is that in chapter 30, while fighting McMuffins Dave says: "I'm not losing any more family". Emphasis on the "more". This means Dave has already lost family, and we've seen that Dave used to live with the two cats in the Houndpaw flashback, meaning that the "family" Dave is talking about is in fact the cats in the flashback. Also, we know that a fire destroyed the place Houndpaw used to live, which also happens to be where Dave and his family lived. This likely means that Dave also lost his family in the fire, but remains there after the fire was put out. We also know that Dave knows what humans are and what cars are, because he explains to Perfectpaw that humans won't harm you if you don't harm them first and that cars always stay on the road. This shows an advanced understanding of human society, which Dave likely got from living nearby humans. I'd call Dave a stray cat, however, due to him not wearing a collar in the flashback. We can also inquire to the name of one of the people who died at the farm when Perfectpaw tries to wake up Dave by saying his name. Dave replies in a sleepy daze "not now Jack". This implies that one of the people Dave was close to was named Jack. Anyhow, I'm sure other people have noticed this before, but I wanted to put it out there after I discovered it myself for any others who weren't aware of this fact. BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY
