Instructions

The following morning, Moonshine received her timetable. "What do you have first?" Maggie asked curiously, while the pair of them sat at the Ravenclaw table, eating breakfast. "Potions," Moonshine said, glancing at Maggie, whose face had fell. "What? Is that bad?" It didn't sound bad to Moonshine. The prospect of creating potions? Using magic to make strange concoctions that could do things ordinary Muggle medicines couldn't? She couldn't wait. "It's not..." Maggie smiled weakly. "You know what, I won't lie. It is bad. Potions is taken by Professor Snape. And you should watch out for him. He is strict as h3ll, and he gives detentions out like they're sweets. Except he would never give out sweets." Maggie took a bite of toast. "So yeah, pretty bad." Moonshine rolled her eyes. "What do you have, then?" Maggie glanced at her timetable. "Potions," she smiled. "We'll suffer through it together." Moonshine laughed. Potions class was held in the dungeons. They were ushered in by Professor Snape: a hook-nosed man with shoulder-length, greasy black hair. He wore a long black robe with sleeves that hung off the ends of his hands. Maggie and Moonshine both sat next to each other, following suit of the rest of the class, but Snape clapped his hands, and everyone stood. "Professor Dumbledore has told your first teachers that we are to place you in a seating plan that you will follow for all of your classes," Snap twirled his wand in his long fingers, and sneered at them all. "I'm to put you on tables I am sure you won't mess around in." At this, he glanced at the two Weasley twins that came last in the sorting, who both put their hands behind their backs and tried their best to look innocent. Snape paced around the room, pointing to random seats and shouting out names. Maggie was put on a table in the far corner. It was four to a table. "Griffith, Moonshine," Moonshine sat in her assigned seat. It was all the way on the other side of the room. "Riddle, Alexandra." A girl sat on the seat beside Moonshine. Her pale purple hair was swept up into an elegant bun. She wore a green tie. Slytherin. Alexandra smiled shyly at Moonshine. "Weasley, Fred." The taller twin sat on the other side of Moonshine. He raised his eyebrows at her and grinned. "Cabanero, Felix." Moonshine's heart sunk right down into her stomach. Flick took a seat opposite her, spinning the chair round and sitting on it back to front, a smirk on his boyish face. Snape finished the seating plan, and Moonshine sighed. Why? Why did it have to be Flick? Snape set them to work on a Sleeping Draught. She flicked open her book to the respective page, and so did Alexandra. Flick did nothing, just stayed in his seat, picking his cuticles, a bored expression on his face. Fred had ripped out the title page of his book, and was throwing it as a paper aeroplane back and forth from him to his twin, whose name Moonshine hadn't picked up on. "Mr Weasley," Snape's voice, ringing loud and clear across the dungeon. "I will leave you with a choice, sit down and get on with your - sublimely easy - work, or get detention." Fred rolled his eyes, and sat. Snape sat as well, but as he did, a loud noise filled the dungeon. Snape had farted. Snape's cheeks went bright red, and he stood, and lifted up a red whoopee cushion. "Weasley?!" Snape's cheeks flushed redder with his anger. Moonshine and Alexandra exchanged glances, and Flick looked subtly amused. "Yes, sir?" Fred asked innocently, while his brother fought hard to contain his laughter. "What do you call this?" Snape demanded. "Well, you see sir, that is an incredible Muggle invention called the whoopee cushion. Quite a spectacle, don't you agree, sir?" Snape looked dangerously angry now. "Detention!" he yelled. "You'd better be here by six o'clock tonight, or so help me." Then Snape sat back down, tossing the whoopee cushion onto the floor, his teeth still gritted angrily. Fred flashed Moonshine a smile, and sat down. And that's how Moonshine was introduced to Fred Weasley.
