While going down to a used record store I heard a homeless man flatpicking a beat up guitar, so I handed him a dollar and asked what he was playing. Turns out it was "Ashokan Farewell." I fell in love with the tune and, after hearing @10goto10 play it on violin: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/946016378/ I decided I was obligated learn it on the banjo. I'm working on mapping it out. So far I've got the beginning down. Technical details: -Played in good ol' overhand style, how it would have been played back in the day. I'm not using the thumb string for this one, just downpicking the melody. -Tuning: Open F (FCFAC) -I'm playing: A Fender FB-54 with the resonator taken off for volume reasons. Please note: my first string was broken at the time of the recording. I'm still able to play, I just have to go some ways down the neck to reach those higher notes.
