Hi hello yes so recently I have found the wonders of doctor who and wowee this has grown from liking a silly show to obsession real fast. If you just want the art read Notes and Credits for the ’about the art,’ but I’d appreciate it if you read my rants. :> If you didn’t know, Doctor Who is a Sci-Fi TV show from the BBC. It follows the adventures of The Doctor, a Time Lord (species of alien) and his adventures around the universe with his companions. It started in 1963, ran till 1990, had a movie in 1996, and was revived in 2005 and is still running today! It just celebrated its 60th anniversary. (November 23rd is Doctor Who Day, it’s the day the first episode aired.) The Doctor’s companions come/go, but Time Lords can ‘regenerate,’ where every cell in their body recreates itself they get a new face, personality, and actor. Throughout this article I will be using they/them pronouns to refer to The Doctor. Why? They have had both male and female regenerations, also personal headcanons! Throughout this article, I will be referring to the three ‘eras’ of Doctor Who : Classic Who - 1963 - 1990 + movie (1996) NuWho - 2005 - 2022 Whoniverse - 2023 - ??? Anyways here’s a LIST OF REASONS YOU SHOULD WATCH (the new/2005 and later. When it was revived, it was written so new fans can start there and not need to watch the 600+ episodes of Classic Who.) DOCTOR WHO! Also I’m very proud of how much I managed to condensed this. 1. It would make me really happy I desperately want to rant to people about it online. And share soul-crushing edits i stumble onto randomly. Cause if I’m sobbing randomly at 2am then you all need to as well. 2. It is EXTREMELY progressive for its time. In 2005, the character Captain Jack Harkness was introduced. He is canonically OMNI! This includes flirting with men, and an MLM kiss. In 2006, there was a canon lesbian couple. (We’re not sisters, we’re married!) idk the year, but S4 E8 ‘Midnight’ there’s a woman who says something along the lines of, “i’m traveling alone, ever since my wife died.” Those are the only examples I can think of right now. 3. The Doctor is very silly The 10th doctor wears a suit with converse every single day. Also whenever he’s doing TARDIS stuff he’ll just use his foot to push a button or hit it with a hammer or something. He also randomly wears 3D glasses for an episode. And is just silly? I dont know how to explain it but hes a silly little man. I love him smm! 4. David Tennant The actor of the 10th doctor, hes just an amazing human being gyah. Like he has a trans kid that he’s 100% supportive of, and wears trans/enby pins to show support plus is just such a great guy! A lot of people online are trying to make him seem like a bad person, but he’s not he’s great. 5. It has a bunch of variety Its not all aliens and whatnot. There’s a lot of historical episodes where they go back in time and like- see shakespeare or meet queen victoria but with fun spins on it! They also add tons of classic monsters, like zombies and werewolves n whatnot, but theres a bunch of unique and original ones too like the daleks and the weeping angels. It goes from comedy to horror and to the saddest thing you’ve ever watched all in one episode. 6. The one scene when the Daleks and the Cybermen meet D stands for Dalek, C stands for Cybermen C - we are 5,000 in number. How many are you? D - four. C - you will destroy the cybermen with four daleks? D - we will destroy the cybermen with one dalek. D - this isn’t murder, it’s pest control. D - the cybermen are superior than the daleks in only one regard. C - and that is? D - you are better at dying. 7. The Cybermen in general You may think, they’re just robots with human brains in them. Yes. But they have handlebars on their heads. Theyre so stupid looking i love them. Also the old cybermen costumes? Theyre soooo funny 8. The weeping angels These guys are just generally neat. Also theyre from whats arguably the scariest episode of Doctor Who. Basically they’re these angels that are incredibly fast, but whenever someone looks at them they turn to stone. Theyre so fast that if you blink they can come at you, though. If they touch you you go back in time to live uouir life, and they feed on potential, and what could’ve been. They cover theyre neyes when stone so it looks like their weeping. Theyre so freaking cool I adore these guys sooooo much. 9. Youd finally know what the Blue Box comes from The random blue police box that you see everywhere? Doctor who. Its called the TARDIS, and stands for Time and Relative Dimension In Space! It was named by Susan, the Doctor’s Granddaughter. 10. The evolution of TV over the decades By comparing the old episodes to the new ones, we can observe how current social events impact television. Its also neat to look into the past and see it! I’d list more, but am sadly out of space in this description. Also if its been going for 60 years it must be good right?
