火旁龍 is the act of throwing fireworks at a dragon. Exploding dragons is a Hakka tradition, in which we take a dragon puppet (usually used elsewhere for dancing) and run it through firecrackers. But why would we ever launch firecrackers at a dragon, you ask? Unlike a lot of other traditions during New Years, this sadly can't be explained by a pun... Actually I can't really explain it at all but 1. Every explosion gives good luck (source: Wikipedia) 2.
