Florida is a dystopia. I mean, generally, the world is a dystopia, but Florida is probably the craziest part of it. I mean, a cishet person who thinks about Florida is probably thinking about beaches, summer vacations, and peaceful retirements. But if you're aware of the sweeping tide of anti-trans bills across America, you'll probably be thinking of bathroom and drag bans. And now, you'll be thinking about House Bill 1233. First, this bill changes all instances of the word 'gender' in state law to 's3x.' Then, it declares that the only recognized s3x categories are male and female. Oof. Unfortunately, that's not all. First, what we've seen is the state erasing non-binary and inters3x people, although at least inters3x people get a mention (if you were labelled as inters3x at birth, and otherwise you just have to fit into the binary). Then, it does this. HB1233 mandates that all identification documents use the s3x you were assigned with at birth. It also mandates you to sign an affidavit when you aplly for ID saying that you marked your AGAB. It also provides insurance coverage for conversion therapy and essentially legalises discrimination against trans people. If this bill is passed, trans and inters3x people will be effectively removed from state law. GUYS! THIS IS NOT OKAY! WE ARE IN THE 21ST CENTURY, SO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ---! (/nay) They aren't even being sneaky about it. The guy who wrote the bill literally calls it the 'What is a Woman Act.' If you're trans and in Florida right now, please stay safe. Get out if you can, but if you can't, have hope. I know that's a totally stupid thing to say, but there will eventually be an out for you. This bill might not even pass. One day, we'll get through all this crap. Evermore
If you comment something transphobic down here i will argue you into oblivion. I've done it before and I'll do it again, so you'd better start finding reliable sources if you want to try me.
