Storm, the biggest of the litter, stood next to her, glaring out at the forest. The last patches of snow were melting and the final frost was finally over. Silver and her siblings could finally live in peace, without worrying about the cold, the snow, the absence of plants and animals that would keep them alive. Snowy, the smallest pup in the litter, stood up proudly, her green eyes stretched wide. Her fur was the lightest of the bunch, more like her mother than anyone else. Silver envied her silvery-white fur, which shined brighter than her own. Stone and Shadow, two of Silver's brothers and both bigger than her, were tussling outside in the grass covered in morning dew. Cinder, Charcoal, and Cloud, the only remaining yearlings, were watching the pair tussle, looking amused. Ember, their mother, stood proudly, watching her pup's eyes as they explored the world around them for the first time. Sage, named after her eyes more than her coat, was watching, looking aloof. She had always thought she was better than everyone else, despite being almost as small as Silver. Silver bounded up to her and squeaked excitedly. "Isn't this exciting? We're finally here! We're finally out in the open, where there's wind, and birds, and sunshine, and snow! Isn't the snow so cold? Well?" Sage looked at her, and though her tail was low and not wagging, her eyes sparked with delight. "Yeah," she stated cooly. "It's cool." "Come on," Silver yipped, her tail still wagging back and forth vigorously, her ears perked proudly. "You've always wanted to go outside!" She suddenly leaped up onto Sage's back and pushed her down into the snow with her fluffy paws. Sage yipped in surprise. "Get off me!" she howled playfully. She flipped around so Silver was on her belly, and Sage lunged at Silver's loose neck skin playfully. They tousled in the wet grass until the sun dipped below the horizon and the forest was lit up with a different light. Two moons later, the yearlings had gone off on their own, Ash, their father, had moved on. Seven moons after that, the pups were ready to spend the last winter with Ember before she had another litter of pups. Silver had grown up with her three brothers and two sisters, and she had learned to hunt, fight, to scavenge. After the winter weather had faded, the pawful of pups would move on, the females finding their own territories and the males seeking females to stay with the rest of the year. Silver was ready to really start her life and find her own territory and start her own family. Afternote: Silver foxes grow up quickly. Males mate with females in the early spring, and the pups are born in late spring. These pups then stay with their parents until the next early summer. Pups that were born the spring before the newest litter are known as yearlings until they find their own territory and start their own family, which is when they're known as full-grown foxes. .。*゚+.*.。 ゚+..。*゚+
