F/A 18 E/F Super Hornet description Type: Multirole Fighter Aircraft Gun: m61a2 vulcan missiles: AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM 9 Sidewinder radar: apg 79 first flight: November 29th 1995. KD: 0-0 engine: General Electric F414 twr: 1.11 top speed: 1190 mph Background: The F/A 18 E/F Super Hornet is a redesign of the F/A 18 Hornet. After the YF-17 lost the lightweight fighter competition, the Navy directed it to be redesigned into the larger Mcdonnell Douglass F/A 18 Hornet. The Hornet was effective but had a limited combat radius, so a even larger Hornet was proposed, originally as the Hornet 2000, it's design included larger wings and a longer fuselage, but it was never created. After the cold war ended, America cut their military budgets. This caused the cancelation of the A-12 which was meant to replace the A-6. Mcdonnell Douglass proposed the "Super Hornet" as an alternative for the A12, the F-14, and the F/A 18. The F/A 18 E/F caused a lot of controversy, because many people thought that the F-14 could hold it's own, and that the Super Hornet's design was unproven and could compromise air superiority. The navy, however, did not care and they cancelled their NATF program that would have navalized the USAF's F22's. As an alternative, Grumman offered to upgrade their F14's, but it was declined and the Navy committed to the F/A18E/F Super Hornet. McDonnell Douglass would than merge with Boeing, which is why the Super Hornet is under Boeing's name. The Super Hornet replaced the F-14, A-6, S-3, and the original F/A-18 Hornet. It is one of the navy's most used aircraft, but it will probably be replaced by the F35 in a few years. First Combat: The Super Hornet saw it's first combat on November 6th 2002, when it participated in ground strike mission in an Iraqi no-fly zone
this project took me a bit more than a month cuz i wanted it to actually look good. The cockpit looks kinda bad because i did that on the last day of the project and i was just rushing to get it done. this is my best blockshade so yay. i might create more every once a while but not as much because it's too time consuming.
