Muslims fast every day of this month (more on that in the next section) and try to increase our worship to God (Allah), and just try to be a good person in general, both religiously and as a person (which is part of religion anyways). Reasons why we increase our worship in Ramadan is that we believe that in this month, every good deed is multiplied, and we try to bring ourselves closer to Allah and use this month as a chance to go closer to Him. Ramadan is also one of the five pillars of Islam, and is obligatory for every Muslim, unless he/she is acutely/chronically ill, travelling (there are rules on that, too- you can look it up if you are interested), etc. Ramadan is the commemoration of the day that the first revelation of the Quran (our Holy book) was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). At the end of the month, Eid Al-Fitr occurs, which is one of our two holidays. What's the story behind it? ◠◠◠ ◠◠◠ ◠◠◠ ◠◠◠ ◠◠◠ ◠◠◠ Before dawn/sunrise, we eat food before we start our fasting. This meal is called "suhoor", while the time we eat it is called "sahoor". Sahoor finishes after the call to the first of the five daily prayers occurs at sunrise. This prayer is called Fajr. After Fajr, we cannot eat or drink anything until the fourth of the daily prayers, Maghrib, happens at sunset. As stated before, fasting is mandatory for every Muslim who isn't extremely ill, or travelling, etc. We fast every day for a month, and it is decided when Eid Al-Fitr (which is also the first day when we stop fasting) occurs by the sighting of the crescent moon. Eid Al-Fitr is celebrated since it marks the end of Ramadan. There is usually a large prayer in the morning, which takes place in every Mosque. Eid Al-Fitr lasts 3 days, mainly celebrated on the first day.
