Jan 29 AU high school auditions-my portfolio Artist statement - A. Why do I create? What drives me to work creatively and how to engage with working processes. I came to Canada about a year ago from Hong Kong. I have loved art since I was a toddler. However, I had never tried to work on such large-scale artistic work pieces before this profile. I worked so hard on these six pieces, and I divided my them into two separate themes: “My Journey” and “Inner World”. My journey When I started brainstorming ideas for my self-portrait, I thought about different aspects of myself, and gradually I came up with the idea of creating a timeline. Do I act the same in different periods? Or which color can represent me? Things that can inspire me are tomatoes and my pets. These two things are very important to me and are a big part of my life. The three art pieces represented the beginning, the process, and the future of my journey and my life. In my life, my family always supports me, and my pets stay with me all the time. I had lots of different meanings embedded inside my works. Inner world It was about the inner psyche of humans. I had different emotions, but I have never showed them easily in front of others. I started with the bright and dark sides, and then the masks. The first thing that came to my mind is “Smiling depression.” Sometimes you may pretend to be good all the way, and are wearing a mask, the three art pieces were all about hiding the true self behind the mask.
