Lore I Guess: In 1986, The K&E Purchased 25 GP60 locomotives for freight service, During Experiments, It Was Tested that this locomotive was great for Passenger Service. All of them were modified to be geared for Passenger service and equipped with head-end power. These variants were known as GP60PHs. They entered service in 1990 and are still in service to this day. However, on February 5th 2005, Engine 7222 Was destroyed after colliding with a Tucson Pioneer. It was rebuilt into 1 of 5 GP60PHRs. It was rebuilt using parts of GP35s and GP38s. The rest of the GP60PHs and PHRs continue to operate on Long and Short Distance Passenger Trains.
