"The rich and famous" Count Stephen of Blois (Pronounced blwah) !! TRACED ART (NOT MY ART) !! I did this for an assignment in my History class :3
Stephen, who was the Count of Blois, an important French city was married to Adela, the daughter of William of Conqueror. He was about 50 years old when Pope Urban II called for the First Crusade in 1096. Despite his age, he left Adela and his home and became a leader in the First Crusade. Stephen was treated like a son by Emperor Alexius. Alexius even asked Stephen If he and Adela would put one of their sons in the emperor's care. Stephen acquired much money and wealth in the early part of the crusades. It all went downhill when Stephen saw many of his men die in battle, and about 500 soldiers were killed when the Turkish army created a surprise attack. The First Crusades launched an attack on Antioch, but Stephen left in mid-battle and returned to his home and wife. He was hated by everybody and his wife eventually persuaded him to join the crusades again. He re-joined the Crusades and was killed at Ramleh, in 1102.
