Hello!! Welcome to Generations!! I'm very aware this is very big and overwhelming so please enjoy this guide of FAQs to help you get started as quickly and painlessly as possible :) STARTING OUT: NOTE: if you need more guided help, please ask our community! they're very kind and very eager to help https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1231046114 (the questions oorp :D) Q: How do I start? A: You start as a kit, born to a litter from a litter project. all kits will start as 1 moon old, as 0 moon old kits can barely move and that'd be very boring to roleplay. You'll go to this studio here: these are the open litters! https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/34224739/ You'll apply for a kit on one of these projects, and if you get accepted, you'll have your very own character! :D *Please note that some litters will be easier to get into than others. Litters marked "S" for example are Selective, and it means that the litter host will select the application they like best. However, litters marked "FCFS" are First Come, First Serve, meaning that as long as the application is correct, the first to apply for a kit gets the kit. More about these in the studio description, but for first-timers I highly recommend FCFS litters!!!! After you start, please check out the Project Hub. It'll give you a list of all the projects and about when you should check them out. You do NOT need to know everything right away. :) https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/808084887 Q: Can I create my own character? A: Unfortunately, the answer would be no. The current system is specifically designed for Generations as the roleplay focuses on aging, death, and relationships. It's designed to automatically set up people with siblings, start everyone up at the right age, encourage complex family trees, etc. The other reason is that, death is common for characters. You really don't want your very loved OC to be placed into the roleplay only to die immediately :( Q: Do I have to read the rules? Most rules in roleplays are pretty much the same. A: We actually have some unique rules that aren't found in a lot of other roleplays, so I would highly, highly recommend looking at them! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1186151655/ Q: Can I have more than one character? A: The answer is unfortunately no. It is one living character per person -- this is to encourage a more in-depth connection to your character, their relationships, their clan, and a more emotional investment in keeping them alive. Q: What's apt/exp?? A: It stands for aptitude and experience respectively. and they're essentially stat points that allow better chances at success at different actions! Here is the guide to it, for a more in-depth explanation. Q: There's... a lot of studios... and projects... and explanations I'm a little lost :( A: I get it, I really do ! I find all of the projects and studios necessary because of their different purposes, but I get that it's. so much. especially for a new person! - The project hub is a quick link hub of all of the projects and studios, along with a suggestion on when you should read them relative to your character's age! Also, my profile is a great north star. I am the curator of all of the official studios, so you can always find me, and I have all of the studios and projects on my profile. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY dont rush getting into this roleplay, you DONT need to know everything right away! it's okay, you'll learn as you go :) Q: great starclan what is that aging system A: well, warrior cats in the books are like this: kit: 0-6 m app : 6-~12 m warrior : ~12 - ~ 110 m elder ~110 - ~200 m and i personally do not feel that it is a good fit for this roleplay considering that the kit and apprentice stages are some of the most important and interesting parts of the roleplay,, as well as wanting a full characters lifespan within a shorter amount of time If i had a simple 1 week = 1 moon approach then thatd be horrendous as it would take 4 whole years to die from old age Thus, firstly, we will emulate a more human-esque aging scale, stopping at 100 (which also prevents a horribly annoying stretch of time in which youre an elder for ages because elder is not that fun) but that still means that being a kit is only 5% of your life, as well as being an apprentice being another 5%. as well as the issue with it still needing 2 whole years to die of old age thus a skewed aging scale, cats age slower when they are young but when they are older they age at a faster rate, which allows more time as a kit/apprentice, and also makes it so that cats die after about 6 irl months- which is FAR more reasonable. here's the breakdown week by week: 1-2 moons: will age at one moon per week. 2-16 moons: will age at two moons per week. 16-40 moons: will age at four moons per week. 40-70 moons: will age at five moons per week. + in n+c
aging system cont. 70-100 moons: will age at six moons per week. 100 - death: will remain aging at six moons per week. 1 - 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10 - 12 - 14 - 16 - 20 - 24 - 28 - 32 - 36 - 40 - 45 - 50 - 55 - 60 - 65 - 70 - 76 - 82 - 88 - 94 - 100 --- Q: Do I have to make a bio project? A: Nope! But if you do, feel free to drop it in the bio studio! https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/32137553/ Q: Will I be keeping track of my own age, apt, exp? A: No, we have amazing volunteers to do that so you don't have to :) Q: Do I have to be a curator to join? A: No you don't! :D The invitation to curate is simply the best method of inviting people while avoiding double invites, and I also consider them less in the way as they aren't a physical comment. Q: I'm going on a hiatus. Who do I tell? A: Please tell the inactivity coordinator!! Find this project through the staff studio or the project hub. Though, please note that hiatuses do not stop aging or randomly rolled deaths to prevent issues, it ONLY stops you from being removed for inactivity. :) Q: So what's the deal with the rolling project? What's that for? A: A lot of different actions in generations come with chances that can result in bad things or good things! This keeps the roleplay fair and realistic :] (Ex: fighting another cat, sneaking out of camp as a kit, playfighting with another kit) The rolling project is in all Clan studios. Q: What are the staff for? Can I become one? A: They help me run the more boring maintenance of generations to ensure a fun experience for roleplayers! THEY ARE NOT MODERATORS AND DO NOT HAVE AN OFFICIAL SAY ON RULES AND REGULATIONS. IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE, PLEASE CONTACT ME :) Please make sure you enjoy the roleplay before submitting an application (esp. as people who have been here longer will be more likely considered!).
