The next day I woke up from a nice long night of sleep. I yawn, then look over at my alarm clock. Twelve thirty, I read and then look back at the wall in front of me, I still wasn’t fully awake. After a quick second, I glance back at my clock. “Twelve thirty!” I exclaim, then quite literally leap out of bed shouting, “Mum! Why didn’t you wake me?” Grabbing a sweatshirt and pulling it over my body, I ran to the kitchen. “Why didn’t you wake me?!” I ask her aggressively. “Hon, it’s Saturday,” she says, still looking at her cookbook. When she looks back at my annoyed face, she laughs. “It’s not even that funny,” I bark as I sat down at the table. “It kinda is,” Alex mocks as he walks into the room. I roll my eyes as he sits down next to me. “Whatever. What’s for lunch?” Alex asks mum. “Your favorite!” mum says excitedly, turning to face Alex. “Meatballs?!” Alex exclaims. “Meatballs!” mum responds, causing Alex’s face to light up. “Is there going to be noodles with the meatballs?” I ask her, almost getting over my annoyance. “Yes there will be Lan,” mum responds to me. I sigh in relief. The next morning, mum tells me and half-awake Alex that we need to go grocery shopping. “Alright. Where are we gonna go?” I ask her. “Probably Shopping Palace,” she responds. She’s currently making breakfast which she always does by herself, so I offer her a hand, and turn the stovetop on and start mixing pancake batter. After I put the first pancake on the now hot pan, I look back to see Alex sleeping with his head down on the table. “Alex!” I shout at him. He shakes awake, startled by the sound of my loud voice ringing through his ears. “Why’d you wake me?” Alex scoffs. “I was in the middle of a good dream!” “Oh yeah? What was it about?” I ask him, flipping the pancake out of the pan and plopping more batter in a small circle. “None of your business jerk,” he replies, seeming agitated. “Hey! Don’t call your sister that,” mum scolds Alex. “Yeah,” I tease. “You be good too, Lana,” she adds. “And we’ll be going to the store after Alex finishes getting ready to go.” “Which’ll probably be never,” I mutter under my breath. “Watch it!” Alex shouts, imitating mum when she shouts at him. I stick out my tongue, and get back to making pancakes. “Since Lana’s being a little turd, I’m gonna go get ready,” Alex says, sounding very snarky. Alex then gets up and walks to his room. When Alex returns from his room, he’s fully dressed in a suit and tie. “You cannot be serious,” I say to him. “Are you gonna let him wear that?” I then ask mum. Mum then turns around and stares at Alex before saying, “Alex, you need to go change into something not so… formal.” Alex then rolls his eyes and turns right back around to go back to his room.
