He was allowed outdoors, along with his parents and two brothers. Before joining the Clans, Foxtrip's kittypet name was simply Fox. He knew to come when called, and he understood the basic rules of housecat life. One day, in one of his yearly check-ups from the 'cutter,' It was discovered that he and one of his brothers had cancer. The bone cancer had only spread to Fox's leg, and needed to be amputated. The cancer had already spread too far in his brother Simba, and he needed to be put down. After the surgery, Fox was brought home to recover. When he learned of his brother's death and of his missing limb, it was too much for him to take. He was devastated, angry and confused. He ended up running away, and found the Clans.
