The clinger octopus (Callistoctopus haerens) is a descendant of Callistoctopus macropus, also known as the Atlantic white-spotted octopus. The clinger octopus has evolved a hunting strategy of climbing out of the sea for a period of time, 20-40 minutes, while scuttling on rocks and catching bugs or crabs with their two front tentacles. They can cling onto steep rocks (hence their name) with evolved suckers that have tiny hairs which can sense nearby movement and stick better to dry surfaces. Clinger octopi also evolved to climb along man-made structures, as there's still many left in their habitat. They only live a year but don't waste their short lifespans on nothing.
