The MXY7-K1 Ohka, was a Japanese’s flying bomb, dropped by a parent aircraft, the Ohka would be gilded towards its target before crashing into it. Pilots flying the aircraft would have limited training and very few instruments, this was because the flight was supposed too be a one way trip. On top of this, once the pilot was inside, they would be bolted in so that they could not escape. Because it was designed to be mass produced, the Ohka was primarily made out of wood and not critical metals. Some specifications of the aircraft include: -a crew of one -fuselage length of 19 feet and 11 inches -a wingspan of 16 feet and 10 inches -an empty weight of 907lbs -a gross weight of4,718lbs -the arment included a 2,646lb warhead -a maximum speed of 615 miles per hour (998km) (in a powered dive) -and the power plant is 4 Mk.1 modle 20 rockets -total of 1,764lbs of thrust In the Ohka time of service from 1944 to 1945 it sunk several ships, this proved to be ineffective because of a lack of carrier aircraft and many failed missions.
This is the first of my series of ww2 planes and a detailed description of them
