This is a project for my world history class that i made in scratch! Read this while doing it: When heated, water turns into an invisible vapor known as steam.(Hold Space) The volume of water expands as it turns to steam inside the boiler, creating a high pressure. (Press N) The expansion of steam pushes the pistons that connect to the driving wheels that operate the train. This makes the wheels turn and the train moves. (Press M) In 1802, Richard Trevithick patented a "high pressure engine" and created the first steam-powered locomotive engine on rails. This steam locomotive was the first of its kind. It was revolutionary. Trevithick wrote on February 21, 1804, after the trial of his High-Pressure Engine, that he "carried ten tons of Iron, five wagons, and 70 Men.” Canals were the mode of transportation before the steam locomotive was created. These canals were very expensive. The locomotive permitted you to pull heavy cargoes, rapidly, along rails that didn't sink into the mud AND it was not as difficult to make. So, on February 21, 1804, British mining engineer, inventor and explorer Richard Trevithick made and tested the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive in the Welsh mining town of Merthyr Tydfil. This revolutionized travel and a form of it is still used today! (Press Right Arrow ->) There are pictures from old and new trains as a comparison. Please don't use this for your school projects
