Chapter Four At the Great Hall the next day, Fennec watched as Harmony sat down with (Melody?) and two Slytherin prefects. Harmony looked kind of bored, and he wondered what he could use as an excuse to go over there and talk to her. Finally, he thought of homework. Boosting a girl’s ego was a good move, right? He headed over. Nervous to even tap her on the shoulder, he stood awkwardly behind her, until Melody nudged Harmony, who turned around. “Oh! Um… hi Fennec,” she said awkwardly, giving a little wave. “Hi Harmony! I know you’re from Slytherin, obviously,” //ughh I just made things awkward again// “But would you mind helping me out with my Astronomy homework? I know that Snape was the substitute yesterday, but I want to impress the new instructor. Heard she’s pretty strict with homework.” “Uh no problem!” Harmony said, going a little red in the face, which even Fennec had to admit didn’t look flattering with her pale blonde hair. She turned back to her toast, and Fennec, feeling half-pleased half-embarassed, headed back to the Ravenclaw table. Straight after class, he watched Harmony detatch herself from her friends and rushed to the library, where he found a slightly secluded spot near a window. When Harmony walked in, looking so small and lost amongst the huge bookshelves, Fennec waved her over. “Hi Harmony!” he said. “Or do you have a nickname?” “Uh, just Harmony.” She said, waving back awkwardly. “That’s okay!” Fennec beamed. “I’m Fenn for short.” “Um. So. Homework?” Harmony asked, brushing her hair out of her eyes, her pale green eyes more sparkly then ever. “Oh yes!” Fenn was almost grateful for a distraction. “I can’t get the difference between a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse…” They stayed in the library for ages before Fenn finally realized Harmony was feeling a little uncomfortable under his scrutiny, and decided to end it. “Thanks so much Harmony!” he said cheerfully. He checked his watch. “And just in time for Astronomy.” They ran up the stairs to one of the towers. The teacher was a black-haired woman wearing a black dress. She had her back to the students and was writing a map of the stars on the blackboard. //Hopefully she’ll sit with me,// Fennec hoped. He spotted Melody. //Please sit with me…// he prayed. Harmony hesitated, waved at Melody and sat down with Fenn. They had just laid out their homework when the teacher suddenly whirled around and shot something silvery from her wand at the ceiling. Half of the students ducked, the other half screamed. Fennec tried not to duck or scream, but failed. //Damn, I’m not being too impressive am I,// he thought. The model of the stars and planets on the ceiling instantly started moving. “My name,” said the terrifying teacher “Is Professor Sira Sayers, and I am your Astronomy teacher here at Hogwarts.” She looked at every student with a penetrating gaze. Fennec felt a cold shiver run down his spine as Professor Sayers looked at him, and Harmony visibly shivered. “I will now call the roll.” Said the professor, holding up a thick parchment. She called out various names, but when she got to Harmony’s, she paused. “Who is this?” she asked. “Harmony No-Name?” A few of the class tittered, then shut up when Harmony raised her hand, and Sira looked over at her. “Ah.” She said. Her face softened a little. “I’ve heard a lot about you.” She said. //What’s she talking about?// Fennec thought. Sira finished calling the roll and began to teach the class. She didn’t know how she got through the lesson, but she did. Afterwards, Sira directed them to Potions, their next lesson. “Harmony, please stay behind.” She called. Fennec felt awkward, walking off by himself, almost wishing he could stay behind and wait for her, but he had another class. Melody stopped him. “Will you wait with me? I don’t want to be alone in the corridor,” she winked. “Sure.” Fennec said, almost glad for an excuse. When Harmony walked out, Fennec waved and Melody hugged her. “What was up?” Melody asked, concerned. “Nothing.” said Harmony. They hurried to Potions. They were nearly late, but all ducked in quickly. There was a desk for three, so Melody, Fenn and Harmony sat down together. Snape looked down his nose at them. “Late, Smith.” He hissed. “Five points from Ravenclaw and be thankful it’s not more.” Fenn was abashed. “…” “That’s not fair!” Melody piped up. “We all came in late, so we should have ten points from Slytherin as well!” Snape frowned. “You want to lose points, Riddle?” he spat. Melody shrunk down her seat. Fennec leaned over and whispered “Thank you anyway, Melody.” She smiled at him. “It’s fine. I’m just being a good friend.” “Am I your friend?” Fenn asked. “Sure you are!” whispered Melody. “Right Harmony?” “Shhh.” Harmony mouthed, before turning back to the lesson. Disappointed, Fennec opened up his schoolbook. //There’s always another day// he reminded himself.
Again, sorry for delays. Writing six fanfictions is very time consuming. ~Fenn
