The President watched me carefully. "What do you mean by that?" They asked calmly, but they could not hide the fear in their voice. "My brother, Frostsky-" I answered. "Was ended by a prey." I tried to fight back the tears, but one slipped down my cheek. I heard the nervous fidgeting of the prey behind me, Butterflyshine according to records. "How?" The President asked emotionlessly, his shadowy voice giving me the creeps again. "By strangulation, President. A ribbon around the neck that was tightened." I whispered quietly, trying to cover up the sadness that remained in my voice. Agents were supposed to be cold killing machines, the immortals the gods made us, except at the cost of our souls. Or did our soul still exist? The reason why we could die? "That easy?" The President questioned. "Yes-" I began. "What do you mean by that easy?" The prey asked quietly. "Aren't we all mortals? Something we need gets taken out of our lives, and that can quickly kill us can't it?" "Prey- stand down." I hissed. "You are only here because you were a witness, and you will speak when spoken to." "Skullblossom, please." The President meowed calmly. "I'd like to hear the prey's opinion as well, say, its rather interesting. But prey, we are not mortals-" The President sniffed in disgust. "-like you and your family, your friends and the prey in your life. We are the hunters, prey that sold our soul for the better, for immortality. We are like your gods." "Gods can't die, can they? How would that explain how I- ended that hunter?" The prey questioned, staring back at the President, her blue eyes filled with curiosity. I could see the hesitation in the President, what was he hiding? "Well you see, all hunters must choose to sell their soul for immortality, and perhaps that hunter simply believed that their feelings was more important than staying forever young." The President shot back. "The lives of hunters are not yours to question, nor to discover. You are lucky you came here alive. Dismissed, Skullblossom and prey." The President whipped around, fading into the shadows. Rage filled me. I had finally gotten the chance to speak to the President alone, and this prey ruined it. "You- I don't know what to do with you." I hissed, whipping around, tail lashing. The prey visibly gulped, backing away. "You're too valuable, having killed a hunter, and you can never return,, otherwise you'd spread the word, wouldn't you? And start a revolution?" I cooed threateningly. "I- I would not! I'd go back and continue living my life-" "No you wouldn't. I know cats like you. They want to be changemakers, and guess what? Change is always not the best." I growled. "Not all change is good, but if the change can save lives than it is good!" The prey argued. "By starting a war that causes death on both sides, especially on yours, is not saving lives." I shot back. "Think about the costs of waging a war, one that you are disadvantaged in!" "But it will save lives in the long term, right?" The prey whispered quietly. "Sacrifices must be made for the future." "Nobody cares about the future here. We live in the moment. We do things that benefit us now, not later." I declared, shutting down any other argument. "If you dare argue again, I will not hesitate to send you down the same path Frostsky did." The prey shut her mouth. "Now let's go. I have some friends to find and discuss the situation with, afterall, you scared off the President." To be cont...
